River Vale Country Club
About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

Very slow pace of play
We teed off 20 minutes behind schedule. The 4some in front of us was exceptionally slow, not very good and the starter/Marshall didn’t do anything about it to make them play faster. The course is beautiful but can’t have a 6 hour round. Also the starter is not very friendly.
Pleasantly Surprised
I have driven past River Vale many times but decided to book a tee time. Much to my surprise the course was great. The course is in immaculate condition. Challenging yet playable. Can’t wait to play it again.
Stunning Course With a Luxury Feel
You would think that this course was a private luxury golf club. It is run that way. I had the chance to play with one of the rangers on his day off. He is simply best in class. The starter greats you and prepares your journey with the utmost sophistication and kindness. The course is maintained to a level that it look like it was brand new. You an order food from your golf cart and they will diver to you on the course. The views are one to truly take in. I already booked my next round and I am brining a friend to show it off. Thanks Jeff for making it memorable.
Blind Shots
Course is not for hi-handicap golfers.
It will destroy your confidence if you think you're a player.
Excellent Public Course
Best public course in Bergen County. It is expensive though.
Slow pace
Spent a lot of time waiting at tee boxes. I was concerned as I relative beginner, but play was pretty stacked up by the time we were at the ninth tee. We were getting to the next tee, and those in front of us had not hit their first shot yet.
Horrible practice/warm up facility
Horrible driving range. Very low top netting.Waste of time/money.
No -practice bunker and the practice putting green is only missing the clown and windmill, not 1 flat surface.
Nice but pricey
I think the price should be in the same range as other courses. It is nice but I think I’d play mor there if the cost wasn’t so high
