Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club
About
Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club (formerly known as Bobcat Trail Golf Club), also known simply as "the Cat," has been considered one of Sarasota County's best courses since it opened in 1998. Each hole on this lengthy par-71 layout offers a risk-reward opportunity. This thought-provoking course requires careful course management, proper club selection, and sharp short game skills. The large greens are fast and undulating and bunkers are strategically placed throughout. There are also several water hazards that come into play. Not only does each hole offer a unique challenge, they all offer beautiful scenery with a different eye-catching feature on each. Golfers will be sure to encounter some of the abundant wildlife that inhabits the golf course including foxes, gators, hawks and osprey. The club's staff claims that any of the 18 holes could be considered a signature hole.

Terrible greens with ok fairways
Worst greens I have ever played on. Severely patchy and bumpy. Some greens even had sand on them so it was like putting through a beach. Fairways were ok and also patchy in some spots.
Need to put money into this course
This was not an $85 course. Greens were in tough shape,, the worse I've played on this year. The fairways were in bad shape, tough to tell the difference between the fairways and roughs. I would not play this again at that price. This is a $40 course at best.
Poor conditions, great layout.
Nothing much has changed. Greens and fairways are in marginal condition. Course does not seem to have the funds to restore it to satisfactory shape. Layout is much better than typical FL courses. It’s a challenging course, made even more so by bare fairways and greens.
The greens are in bad shape
I assume the course will play better in the summertime when the grass grows better, but right now in February the course is in terrible shape. Greens are so bad. Holes and dead grass everywhere.
The Bobcat
We booked a 1pm tee time thru Golfnow. Got to the course and was told they didn’t have our tee time. I showed the person behind the counter my confirmation and they said they would squeeze us in. He said their computer system and Golfnow don’t always talk to each other. Their website says they do not accept cash at the course yet the cart girls only accept cash because they do not have a card reader. The round took a little over 5 hours. Then our.cart broke down on the back nine. After 3 phone calls to the clubhouse (left 3 messages) with no call back, we walked the rest of the way in. When we got back to the clubhouse everything was locked up. I will assume they closed the clubhouse at 5pm and there were still several groups coming in behind us. You would think the clubhouse would stay open until everyone gets in. I will not be returning to The Bobcat.
Charlotte Harbor National
Nice layout. Traps have been re-sanded since the last time I played. However, overall condition of course wasn’t too good. Grass is thin everywhere. Greens very threadbare. Makes for very fast but bumpy putting. Tee time was 11:56 and finished right at 5:00. That’s too long.
Poor Facility for the money
I have not played the course in over two years, and will never play here again unless the cost is under $20.00. The course looked like it had not been watered in months, the conditions of the greens were the worst I have seen in the last 2 months and the 5 other courses I have played. The cart had a container for a sand bucket, but it was gone, so you could not fix your divots, and apparently this has gone on for some time based on the condition of the fairways. The course has a decent layout, and if it was funded, or had a decent greenskeeper, it could be a very good golf course.
This course has character for a Florida course
The course had a lot of variety and character for a Florida course. The greens were fast, irregular shapes and allowed for a number of challenging pin placements. Even though they had a water problem I really didn’t have a bad lie. I will definitely play it again.
Needs Work
Not sure it is worth more than $54 to play during high season, but not much else was available. Greens were hard, so nothing stayed on the greens. When putting the greens were really fast. Fairways had little grass.
