Poor ownership
I had a 12 pm tee time, booked thru Golfnow. I apparently was paired with another group of golfers, as I was a single. I was given my cart key and proceeded to the 1st teebox. I met a gentleman at the tee box and teed off at 12:03pm. As I parked my cart on the 1st fairway to begin to take my 2nd shot, the person that was at the proshop counter came down the fairway, in a cart and proceeded to yell at me for teeing off with the wrong group. He Immediately took my cart key and told me to walk the rest of the way. Not only was he rude, he offered no apologizes for any confusion or any offer to correct his mistake for his tee pairing, as the group I apparently was paired with, was not ready for the tee time and at the driving range and practice green. I should note that the course was empty, with no other groups within several holes. I will no longer do business at this course. I found out that the person at the proshop was 1/3 owner as I spoke to his sister, when I complained at the snack shed at the 9th hole turn. She was apologetic but the damage had been done. These folks lost out on a season membership that I was thinking of purchasing as well as a corporate outing that I was planning for. I will take my business elsewhere and will make certain that other golfers know and understand that the the owners of the course are not happy with Golfnow or anyone who books a tee time with golf now. A sad shame because Golfnow makes it convenient for folks who just dont have time to call in advance for tee time availability.
Improvements being made
The course is in good shape and it looks like they are working on improving it ,well worth a trip to play
Painfully slow!
This course is overbooked on the weekends. Way too slow. They need some work on the cart paths and there were several areas near tee boxes with holes that need filling. Many tee boxes in rough shape.
great value for the money
Nice course, not too difficult but not too easy. Greens in good condition. Cart paths can be improved though.
Avoid
Tee boxes are like hitting out off a light rough. Looks like they haven't been cut in some time. Bunkers weren't playable. Some greens were okay and others had drainage issues and some were just completely covered in pitch marks. Worst carts ever. I had to stomp the gas pedal literally 10-15 times every single time after stopping the cart. They just wouldn't go. Cart paths were an absolute joke and in horrid condition. Not happy I spent $40
Slow!!!!
I haven’t played this course in at least ten years. So I tee off as a single and some guy caught up to me and said he was joining me. Normally this is fine but this guy would not stop talking. Made the round very uncomfortable. All I wanted was a nice relaxing day by myself. That’s why I booked a solo time. I understand that sometimes you get paired up but the guy at the club house didn’t mention it at all. The main issue was the slow play from the groups ahead of us. Not sure if they sent the groups off too close together or what but it was very slow. I ended up having to leave after the 12th hole. The course was in great shape but I don’t think I’ll be back for another 10 years.
Good Layout and Atmosphere
Played the Island Oaks course and had a good time. Course layout was pretty unique. Lots of hills made for an interesting course. Pace of play was subpar with having to wait minutes on end at each tee box. Not necessarily a fault of the facility as it could have just been groups in front of me played slower. Greens appeared well kept and sand traps were well filled. The golf carts are pretty old, didn’t find a specific spot to put my tees. But that’s more of just a small annoyance as opposed to a real issue. I wouldn’t not come back.
Island Oaks in great shape despite recent drought.
Even with several months of little to no rain, the course was in very good shape tee to green. Greens ran true and were moderately fast. The greens were also receptive to holding longer shots into them.
Lima Island Oaks
Despite the drought throughout the area this summer, the course was in great condition. I was impressed with the lushness. The greens were receptive and ran true. Had good runout on fairway hits. Little disappointed in IPA selection in the snack shack but we were there to play golf so not really an issue.
Nice Course, friendly ownership
Very nice course and a wonderful value. The ownership is friendly and involved. I like it there very much.
