Putnam County Golf Course
About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

Nice golf course
Course was in nice shape. Landing areas are generous. Greens were not fast, but smooth and consistent. Fairways were fairly lush. Sand in bunkers was a little bit inconsistent. Overall, for the money you pay, I can't complain. I will be back.
Pace of play
I love this course. The staff are wonderful. But the starters/rangers DO NOT care about pace. Know before playing here that if you get caught behind a slow group you either have to play through them if you can or you are going to wait a lot because the rangers aren’t going to do anything about it. They will instead drive out to you and explain WHY the group is playing slowly??? They’ve also lost some big patches on some of their greens which I’m sure they’re VERY aware of. Again, I love playing here but they have to work on pace. It’s a part of golf.
Nice Course!
Very nice public course, with well-kept grounds. Challenging enough to make play enjoyable. Met some nice folks during play. Will definitely play here again.
rangers????
Play is to slow …. No rangers and older high handicap players …
Spur of the moment!
Friend and I were in the Peekskill area for 2 days. Decided to check out Putnam on a whim. We live in Buffalo area and we have never played on a public course as nice as this one. For the price, it was a great course. It was challenging enough to make us want to come back and try again. Maybe next time we can read the greens a little better. All in all it was a great day of golf.
Great day to play Putnam County GC
I always like playing this course and a bonus this time to get out earlier than our scheduled tee times. The course was in good shape being it's the beginning of the season. The staff are always friendly and welcoming.
Not terrible but slow
Sunday evening 9 hole round. Pretty slow 2 hr 20min but I knew what I was getting into with it being a nice day. Green on #6 is in rough shape. Other than that not bad
Need a Ranger out there to speed up play
If you play here, make sure you have nothing planned for the rest of the day. The pace of play is always slow. We were 4.5 hours in to hole 14….. didn’t have enough time to finish the round.
