Putnam County Golf Course
About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

Close to home and challenging
This course is close to my house and really challenges all aspects of my game. Never disappointed with a round at Putnam!
Great course if Time Permits
This is not the course to tell your significant other that you're playing a quick round of golf with your buddies. Course conditions were great but pace of play needs to improve. I would recommend to a friend if they're not pressed for time.
Poor condition and pace
There are no fair greens at fairways. The course's condition is so bad and they got most tee time for 5-6 people at the same time. I could finish my 18hole about 5hour and 20min pace. Do not want to go anymore.
Too many back and forth holes
The front 9 has a decent layout, the back nine has too many back and forth holes. There are players from adjacent holes in your fairway on most of the holes on this nine. Considering the drought in the area, the condition of the course was good, and the greens in good condition, and receptive.
Good Muni Course
I’ve played this course several times. It’s a very good course except for the pace of play. Unfortunately, at this time with the lack of rain, the fairways are burnt out. However, the greens are still in great shape
Home of Rude Clientele and 5 Hour Rounds
Putnam is a good choice for beginning golfers due to the lack of areas to lose balls. I’ll typically go with beginner friends 1-2x a year but likely never again. Pace of play at Putnam has always been a problem as the course just sends people out as fast as possible without any proper spacing.
There are no rangers to monitor pace of play and it’s impossible to play in less than 5+ hours unless it’s a weekday morning. At the end of our round yesterday, a golfer going down the 10th hole, which runs parallel to No.18, felt it necessary to fake a loud cough in my beginner friend’s backswing and then heckle him after he messed up the shot. Yes, some people are just rude but that type of attitude feels woven into the personality of this course. It’s embarrassing on behalf of the management and I hope anyone reading this chooses better options in the area.
This course is a waste of an entire afternoon.
Hot deal was not deal !
I felt it was not hot deal there I booked as hot deal.
They treated me not good.
If you will take a hot deal with cart. We have to ride with someone that taking hot deal.
And Their course was flat and not so interesting , their green were very fast and difficult .
Gene hackman
Aside from loosing a few balls in the woods it was an overall good experience. Will definitely be back
Decent for a public course
Conditions were super dry. Edges of some fairways were beat up and just dirt. Decent layout and some challenging holes. Small driving range but ok to warm up just the irons. Friendly and helpful staff. Great bar and restaurant for before and after round. Saw the cart girl almost every other hole which was great!
