Sandpiper at Spring Lake Golf Club
About
Spring Lake Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf located in the heart of Long Island. The two courses, the 18-hole Thunderbird and the nine-hole Sandpiper, may be different lengths but they are equally challenging. Don't underestimate the Sandpiper Course, this layout is more rigorous than what you would expect from a nine-hole layout. The course is situated alongside the club's namesake lake, offering beautiful views as well as a few water hazards. The round begins with its signature hole. This risk-reward par 5 is dotted with multiple lakes and the green has water to the right and back and bunkers to the left. There are many ways to approach this hole, you can play it safe or take a risk and try going for the green in two.

Nice Track
Perfect "summer" day. Grass clippings littered the course. Had to clean ball on every fairway shot. Workers on course could have been more cognizant of golfers. Course in great May shape. Bunkers were well-attended to; I should know !! Good shots are rewarded. Friendly service in Pro shop.
A+A+A+
As always great time. The back tees are a test .
There are hassards that come into play that you do not encounter from the upper tees.
ALOT of fun.
Solid golf course
Place is in beautiful condition. Greens are HUGE with a lot of tough potential pin positions. They weren't very fast the day I played but I've been told they get up to 11+ stimp on weekends. Very rural feel with nice mix of challenging and birdie-able holes. If it wasn't so far from my home, I'd play here way more often.
Year round this is always a well maintained course
I could not say all great things about this course years ago, but since they have changed the staff this courses reputation has grown In a great way. This has become my favorite course on Long Island.
Cold Play
The course was in fairly good shape except for one hole had a temporary green while work was being done on or around the green. The temporary was just a whole in the fairway, they could of cut the grass around the flag there was not putting at all. The weather was a bit cool and windy which made the course more challenging. We played just after noon and the pace of play was slow. for 2 groups ahead of us. The were no rangers on the course to move things along.. We started as a twosome and let a twosome behind us join in. We ended up play in about 4 hours and 40 minutes.
had a great time and the course was in very good condition for this time of year.
The course is always in good shape. The greens have a lot of slope and can be difficult, There is very little trouble on the course but there is enough variety in the design to make it challenging for golfers at all skill levels, There is a good advantage for the ladies in the positioning of the tee boxes which my wife enjoys a lot,
A great course but....
There are things that are impressive about Spring Lake: Nice people, a pro shop that isn't an afterthought. It's large, with a great selection, and provides a wide variety of services. The course is generally in very good condition, the greens are fast, undulating and well guarded. the tee boxes are well maintained and the fairways are in very good condition. All that was true the day I played. There are two problems, however, that can be bothersome. First, The holes are tightly packed together with a number of cart paths intersecting at bottlenecks. An example of what I'm saying is the #1 handicap hole. It's only 475 yards. Why so hard? It makes a hard right turn about 100 yards out. It's unusual. But it's also apparent it was made to fit, with a convergence of several holes around it. The course doesn't meander through the property. It fits like a jigsaw puzzle. It can be confusing especially for a first time player. The second problem is more important. It is very hard to play in the Fall. The course layout is mostly east to west and the sun and a few leaves can make it frustrating. the most potent example is the tenth hole. It's a par 5 facing uphill. There were 3 foursomes on the hole all blinded by the sun. This is at 1:30 pm, not sundown.
For me, Summertime is the best time to play Spring Lake to enjoy the obvious positives it provides golfers. Call me picky, but you can't be a 5 star course with these kind of idiosyncrasies.
Good day for golf
Liked the course, it was a slow day with slow paced ppl in front of us, but the weather was nice so it was worn it
One of the best in Long Island
I'm glad that Spring Lake joined GolfNow this year. This is one of the best public course in LI. It is well maintained, and its greens are fast and challenging.
Quality course
Great course. Good condition and pace of play. Great mix of holes. Fun course to play
great course-fall time, lose a lot of balls
great enjoyable course. However, loss many balls due to leaves (or bad shots) Great course. but through Golf Now-you need to pay for golf cart $51.00 per person
great value
Played the courses in long island in many many years, but this was a first time ever in this course. What a surprise!!! Booked little cheaper thru Golfnow. Layout was beautiful, and greens were perfect. Little bit confused at the beginning because there was no starter giving us the direction. ( find it odd when it was Saturday early afternoon. ) Overall it was money well spent.
Beautiful Course
A big course on a beautiful property. Big fairways lined by mature trees, large rolling greens, and 3 nines offering a nice variety. A family owned course where you can tell they take great pride in the conditions. I really like the greens. They are quick and true. Well worth the money.
Took 4.5 hrs to play. Unfortunately, too many divots not replaced or repaired and ball marks not repaired.
Definitely worth $39 to walk. Not a hard walk. No water on the course. 9th hole does take you back to the clubhouse.
What more could you ask for ?
What a pleasant way to spend 3 1/2 hours ! The course is in fantastic condition, the staff couldn't be friendlier, and the pace of play was heavenly.
The golf now reservation made a spectacular experience even better. I can't wait to go back !!
This course is nice
The course was in good shape as was the greens. The pace was quick-no waiting--some courses offer specials during the week like a free sandwich and beer after the round. No deals like that here but would play here again.
Manangement rude
Went out as a single during the week, no starter. At third hole, threesome playing slow and I went around to fourth hole and played through. When I had finished, the ranger aka golf police, asked me if I skipped hole, tried to explain what happened. He replied against rules, they have a long list. HE decided to do me a favor and let me continue to play. Management feels they r doing u a favor by letting u play on their course-bring ure lawyer to play here-otherwise there r many nicer courses to play on long island
Great greens
Course played a little slow due to USGA being on course doing slope ratings. Overall, course was in good shape. The greens rolled very true. Well maintained, even with recent heat wave.
Always play here at least once a year.
Perfect condition
This is one of my favorite courses in Suffolk county. For an average to decent golfer like myself it is just challenging enough without being unfair. I played it on July 16th and it was in near perfect condition.
Gorgeous
Excellent course and in great shape but certain groups need to be more economical when playing. This is not the PGA
If there is a slow group, you are asked to call the shop so we can take care of the situation. We discourage customers skipping holes and jumping around because it becomes contagious. Just speak to management in the shop and we are always happy to accommodate in any way we can.
