Enjoyed it
had a great time on this course. It is beginner friendly, however greens were very challenging. I will be playing here again
Good course for novice
Good value for 18 holes. Basic open 9 hole course with 2 sets of tees to make 18. Limited water hazards, just a creek cutting across a few fairways. Played with a twosome on Saturday afternoon in July and course was fairly empty.
Things fall apart
Ive played here a few times in the past year, and was generally ok with my experience, because it was such a cheap greens fee. Now I dont believe I would go back, even if you let me play for free!!! This was the first time I played there this year, and it's like night and day. The course is not maintained, with some greens for example going from green surface to 4" dandelions as a first cut. The fairways were overgrown, and it was often hard to distinguish fairway from first cut. To add to it, there was a foursome right before me made up of two 50 year old guys in jeans and jean shorts, and two 7-8 year old boy and girl! The kids were adorable, but they were kids being kids. Loud, having fun. They hit every shot to each green, even if it meant 40 shots at it! No one policed this at all, so I just went around them, but you get the point. Shame.
Staff unfriendly!
When I arrived there was no place to park. The area was full of small children and parents. I asked the staff if I would be able to play the second 9 of 18 (9 hole course) and was advised that was my problem. You get what you pay for. I asked if I could play another day and was told you booked today you play today.I was not able to play 18 and went
home.
Not too bad
9 hole course that has 2 t-boxes per hole to split the "2 nines". Course is in decent shape. Some greens better than other. Some green slopes are pretty tough for such an average course. Great place to go out for a practice round.
It is not Country Club. Worse than your backyard
Play 9 Hole twice. It is 9 Hole Golf Course. is not 18 Hole. Fairway has no grass. All weed.
Great Value
Booked a 7:40 time, got out a little earlier. Staff and members were very friendly
THIS COURSE HAS A VARIETY OF INTERESTING HOLES.
I RECENTLY PLAYED AT MONROE COUNTRY CLUB WITH A VERY OUTGOING AND FRIENDLY CLUB MEMBER.THE COURSE WHICH AT FIRST GLANCE IS NOT EXTREMELY LONG - BUT PRESENTS A DEFINED SET OF CHALLENGES WITH ITS WATER HAZARDS, UNDULATING AND FAST GREENS AND VARIABLE TOPOGRAPHY.THE STAFF WAS VERY ACCOMADATING AND PROFESSIONAL.THE COST WAS INEXPENSIVE BUT THE TOTAL EXPERIENCE WAS ESPECIALLY REWARDING.
Pretty course, good features, lots of variety, staff friendly, other players friendly and laid back
Course could use a little more maintenance.
Greens are really deceiving. Lots of fun.
Nice course with challenging holes.
My buddy had his best 18 ever so Monroe Country Club will always be remembered! Nice course run by nice people! Work being done on course will only make this course better then it is now!
Good day
Nothing spectacular but a fun day. No complaints. I would go back
Very nice course. Go, you'll enjoy it!
My son and I had a really nice time on this beautifully maintained course. Only nine holes but we did play twice. Not too many water hazards (good for me). If you have the opportunity to play here, do it, you'll really like it.
Great course for beginners and seniors.
I went with my grandson and had a great time. The course was maintained nicely and was a perfect place my me to practice and for my grandson to hone his skills. The staff is super friendly and the course is somewhat challenging for both of us. The course is not a class "A" rated course, but I would go back because it was not crowded and we had time to hit shots over again.
Go to a driving range instead
When we showed up I went to check in at the pro shop. The two guys in the shop gave me a key and the told me there was no carts outside. One of the guys, I am assuming the pro, told me to take his cart. He said there was a group ahead of us and we would be behind them. Apparently it was his group. He told my wife and I to go ahead and tee off as one of their group wasn't there yet. He also told us to keep up the pace and be mindful of the walkers behind us. I am sure that if I wasn't playing with a woman this would not have been said to me. So from the start the place was hardly welcoming.
Then the course was in miserable shape. Fairways were ok but not clearly marked. The greens were splotchy and rough. The bunkers were dirt not sand. A tough go.
All conditions aside it would have been tolerable if the staff had been a little more courteous.
unbelievable value
on tee looks simple but greens and pin placements will murder you Great test
Nice course, good conditions, faster then anticipated
I played in a foursome that included a 78 year old and a 66 year old. I wasn't planning on a fast rate of play and thought it might even be slower then usual from the reviews I had read, however, we played in just over 4 hours and let 2 twosomes play though.
The course was in very good condition but wasn't as polished as some others I've played. I'd say it's a fair course as far as scoring but I may be a bit biased as I posted my best score ever here (84).
Only complaint I'd have would be the tee boxes. They were set up in very odd spots and the markers were literally about 4 feet apart. Some set you up to be hitting almost directly into a tree. The actual boxes are plenty big and in good condition, not sure why they were set up so oddly.
Oh, one more complaint, one of the par 3's was on a green that had a steep slope (which is fine), however placing the hole in the middle of that slope is not, the cup itself had to be at about a 35 degree angle from level. Despite shooting an 84 I put up a 5 on that hole and I hit the green with my tee shot (yes, a 4 put and I ended the round with only 32 putts).
Facility and course are unacceptable as semi private.
1. It is 9 hole course not 18 hole - never mentioned, but I found that when I there after one hour drive.
2. Facility is so old - One small bath room to share men and women on club basement.
3. Most Gas Cart are so old and broken for most part and look like those are never cleanup after golf, even we changed after 2nd hole.
4. Cart paths is mostly Grable, but not maintained.
5. Tee Boxes are mostly high glass with trash.
6. Greens are so unpredictable - maybe it is good to make high score.
7. No starter and no rangers with disturbing golfers cross all over and delay game.
8. I do not recommended this course to the other golfers even Golfnow has cheap price. It is first time that I do not recommended within 80 course around this area.
Best value around
Don't have 5 1/2 hours for 18 holes at the big' courses? Monroe Country Club has no crowds and some of the most challenging greens that I've seen. The addition of a number of greenside bunkers has raised the bar for precision off the tee as well as from the fairway. As they say, "try it, you'll like it!"
Oh yeah....One last criticism of your review is that there are indeed separate bathrooms for men and women. There are also several additional bathrooms adjacent to the restaurant.
I find many things incorrect regarding your review of Monroe Country Club. You say that there is no mention that this is a 9 hole course when it specifically states that this is a 9 hole course with 18 different teeing areas. You also mention the facility is old....It was built in 1925. I'm not sure why that is a negative. The golf carts are 3 years old. The tee boxes when I have played there have been in very good condition. As far as the greens go, they are undulating and require you to properly read the breaks. This is a mountain course and this should be expected. There are no starters or rangers because they are not required. Most private courses don't have "rangers" and besides the rounds here are very fast.
