Winding Hills Golf Club
About
Winding Hills Golf Club in Montgomery is a challenging course that will give you some practice with your irons and test your short game skills. This formidable short course is much tougher than it appears. The designer, Steve Esposito, modeled the layout after Jeff Cornish's Blue Rock Course in Cape Cod. The narrow, tree-lined fairways require accuracy. Strategically placed sand traps frame the small greens and several water hazards come into play as well. The holes vary in length and each is unique from one another. You may be surprised to find that you have to use all the clubs in your bag. The ninth hole is arguably Winding Hills Golf Club's toughest. This par 3 requires a long and demanding carry to a green that's sloped back to front.

Nice little par 3 course
It's basically a par 3 course, wasn't expecting it cause it wasn't in the title like most par 3 courses have.. 3 par 4s on the entire 18.. Overall nice little course.. Greens are tough.
Just a Great Little Course
This course is a little gem. Always in great shape. Super friendly staff and owners. Feels like your own personal golf course. Very short, but the greens do a good job making up for it. Great place to relax and play a nice laid back round.
fall golf
had a tee time of12 noon course was in great condition and very quiet weather on the cool side especially after 3 pm great value for 18 holes
Terrific course and staff
I Used to play a lot of golf, Hawaii, Bermuda, Bahamas, etc., but not much since moving to Hudson Valley. Played some courses in this area, but Winding Hills is my favorite. Next week will be three weeks in a row, and the 4th time. Great for returning golfer to hone skills again. Difficult enough to be challenged, especially the greens. Great to work on short game, which I need badly. Thanks to the friendly staff.
Wonderfully kept course
Beautiful little 18 hole course. All par 3's and 4's. But now sized fairways and no short little holes like some other gimmicky courses that are all par 3 and 4. The grounds were immaculate even after playing there with no rain fall for the previous few months. The greens were also beautifully kept. But all in all a fun course to play. Would recommend it to anyone. Check it out for yourself!!!
They need a course ranger
I could only plan nine wholes as a single @7 in the morning. The play was slow because the twosome ahead of me hit multiple balls on each whole. I understand that people take a mulligan every now and then. But on most holes one of the players was hitting 3 balls.
The golfers should use some course etiquette and the course needs a ranger I didn't see one on this day.
I will still play the course again though.
artyart
good practice for Irons. no need for driver. this course is good work for all the short irons and chipping.
Excellent little course
This course is very short. But always in great shape and is absoluteky beautiful to play
Beautiful
The landscaping was incredible. Greens were well maintained and interesting. Great for practicing accuracy
Winding Hills
Fun course. Great condition. Only downside when I played was that there was no water out on the course. Not good when it's a hot and humid day.
Surprise
A surprisingly challenging executive course. Tight fairways surrounded by trees require straight hitting, then the greens get you. Undulating and hidden breaks make putting a challenge. As a beginning golfer, I was challenged by this well maintained course. Staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely on the list to play again when looking to work on my short game.
Great Time
Awesome Par 3 Executive course! Friendly staff and extremely well maintained grounds. Will be going back.
Challenging 'Executive' course
As an 18 hole short 'Executive' course, it is a challenge. Three par 4s and the rest are par 3's.
This course is well maintained, more like a 'championship' (par 72) public course than some other 'executive' courses that I have played. On most of the 15 par 3s, if you miss the green you are likely in some heavy rough and / or down a hill (they don't call it Winding HILLs for nothing). Some of the par 3s are quite short, just a wedge shot, some are long. There are a few forced carries. A number of the greens are heavily slopped. Thick rough and slopped greens makes this the most challenging 'executive' course that I have played.
The staff is very friendly, there are deals on GolfNow and the price is quite reasonable.
The restaurant menu is simple, and the food is good.
Even though it is a short course, I suggest using a cart, unless you like to negotiate some hills with your golf bag.
There is usually no problem getting a tee time, or even walk-on (at least during the week).
Incredible course
I was blown away by the conditioning and landscaping of the course upon arrival. They play was just as good. The short course defends itself with tough green complexes and sight lines. A joy to play. I will play this course many times in the future.
A Hidden Gem in Montgomery, NY
Winding Hills is a beautifully maintained course with surprising difficulty even though basically a Par 3 course. There are 3 or 4 par 4 holes, but every hole has it's own challenges for even the scratch players. We love playing Winding Hills when we need to work on our short game as there is plenty opportunity to do just that! The greens are very well designed and very well taken care of, and did I mention challenging?
SCENIC AND WELL KEPT
great course. good pace of play. can be challenging. well manicured. will definitely play there again and again.
Tough course.
Greens are extremely fast and unforgiving. The pin placements were impossible to get to on quite a few holes with potential landing areas like 5 feet in diameter. Some of the greens are simply impossible to hold. I hit one green and landed my tee shot about 3/4 deep and far left side and I ended up off the green on the front right about 80 feet from my divot. 18th hole my tee shot in the middle of the green left side and ended up off the green short left. It's not like I spin the ball like the pros that I could get an 8 iron to come back 50 feet! You have to miss in the right places to have a chance of getting up and down. If you miss in the wrong place on most of these greens, having the ball on the green within 15 feet of the hole after a chip or pitch is a great accomplishment with a two putt bogey a moral victory. You can count on several double bogeys on this course if you're playing it for the first time. It is in great shape and very pretty! I found some of the pin placements very unfair with less than 10 feet to the fringe on two sides of the hole sitting and everything falling away from it on all sides. The only way to get the ball close to the pin on some of the holes was to miss the green on the correct side in the long grass that would hold the ball leaving an impossible chip. One would have to play this course several times to figure out where the misses are with specific pin placements. A miss right on the fourth hole is an impossible par. Chip in for birdie or take a 5 and move on because your second shot will not be on the green from that side. I don't think some of the pin placements would be approved by the USGA for US Open play personally.
Great course
Winding Hills is a great course for beginners. I've only just started golfing this summer but this course's ease of access and use have made my outings very pleasant. The fact that the holes are shorter make it perfect for a beginner like myself. All of the vegetation force me to fine tune my aim or risk losing my ball.
2 1/2 hours of Fun
A little shorter than a standard executive course but dont let that fool you into thinking its easy. Many tough greens and fairly quick to boot. Tight track with little room to error. That said its a pretty track with much fun to have.
