Regulation Eighteen at Smithtown Landing Golf Club
About
Smithtown Landing Golf Club offers both an 18-hole regulation course and a nine-hole executive course. The courses are open to the public on weekdays and to Smithtown residents on the weekends. The Regulation Course has a surprisingly tough layout with subtle but tricky contours throughout that cause some challenging lies. Mature trees line the fairways, making accuracy a necessity and there are also several strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. At 6,114 yards from the back tees, it's a golf course that requires strategy over length, beginning with the first hole. This dogleg right par 4 will force you to carefully think about the placement off the tee. In addition to the two golf courses, Smithtown Landing also has two practice greens with surrounding short game areas and a driving range.

Pace of play
Not sure if it was hacker holiday, but there was
A group in front of us that did not belong on this course.
After 5 hours we decided not to finish the rounds. 2 holes left, if we stayed it probably would have been a 6 hour round.
The ranger was around but didn't seem to help.
The course itself was in great shape and fun to play. Maybe one more try, definitely "not" on the weekend!!!!
The Good, ...The Less Good, ...and Not Good
Observations:
GOOD
-Greens were Fantastic!! - firm and fast
-Rough was not too long, but thick and playable
-Fairways in nice shape
-Course "shot sight-lines" were cut nicely
-Challenging 2nd shot/approach shot little course - rolling, undulating fairways and small greens
-New tee box on #2, and view on back of #11 is great
-Town looks like it has put a lot of money and time into upgrading facilities since last here (bar was not open yet, hence, low mark until :):)
-Allowed to have a personal cooler if it fits in the cart basket
LESS GOOD
-Some spotty areas on a few of the tee boxes and green perimeters
-Pace of play in the afternoon - saw a "six"some" playing on a busy course
-People playing in tee shirts (Disclosure: somewhat a golf traditionalist, biased)
-Driving range - old mats on concrete, can't hit woods
-Golf cart traffic jam near pro-shop, and can't get a key until you are about to tee off, can't take a cart to the driving range or practice green, can't take a cart to drop off / pick up your clubs (maybe have a staff member(s) circle the parking lot with a cart to help elderly like Spring Lake?)
NOT GOOD
$2 - for a tiny tiny tiny potato chip bag
$7 - for a can of non-craft beer
$5 - for a "dirty" soaking hot dog, not grilled
* Couldn't find the "snack cart" person on course
Overall, love the course...will be back! It has been 2 years. Keep up the good work, enjoyed the day with friends. Thanks!
Smithtown Landing
Smithtown Landing is a very nice course with some challenging holes and greens. Some of the pin placements on holes provide even more of a challenge. The course was in good condition and the greens can be tricky, but run at a good speed. My only complaint is that I feel the greens are very firm and it's very easy for well struck irons to land on the green and run off. I also felt that some of the rough was overgrown and too many grass patches on the fringe of the greens. Smithtown Landing offers a lot of value for your money and it's one of the nicest muni courses on Long Island. I recommend it to anyone!
Challenging course
Lots of doglegs, and blind shots. Excellent condition , greens were super fast and hole placement tough
Best public course on LI
Challenging and beautiful all at once. Putting greens are a little fast but otherwise the best public course I've played on Long Island.

What am I a child?
I have played here a ton but I dont think I will be back. Apparently there is a new rule that they wont give you a key to your cart until your tee time. As for the course it wasnt in good condition all greens were air-rated and the cup on a few holes was damaged. Additionally there were a few tee boxes of just dirt literally not a spec of grass. The round also took 4hr52min. For a hotdeal $55 a person aint bad but how can you even justify north of $65 when you can go play bethpage for less

Fast round
Played here greens were aerated and sanded still very reactive
Tee boxes were pretty beat up but it’s still the spring expect the course to be beautiful in the summer
Still one of my favorite courses on the island
Smithtown Landing Golf Course
Smithtown Landing is a very nice course offering some challenging holes. The greens were aerated when I played, but it was still fun playing. The greens will be on good condition when they are done, as they usually are. I like the course and recommend it to everyone. The staff is always friendly and accomodating.
Course
I think the course is very nice, moderately difficult, and just poorly kept greens. The first cut of the green was bumpy and had different patches of crab grass around it. If they clean that up the course would be much better. Overall I like it just the greens are in poor shape

Lots of improvements!
Been playing this course since the mid 1980s and so happy to see many improvements to the course and facilities over the past year or two! Brand new tee box at #2 is most welcome. New cart paths are also excellent. Great layout with fast greens. About half the greens were aerated but it wasn’t too bad. Grass still not grown in yet, but it’s still early in the season. Course was very dry… no watering and no rain recently. When summer rolls around this will be a super place to play!

Not Ready for the Season
I normally play the course a few times per year. They apparently did a lot of work on the grounds since the last time I played fixing cart paths and removing trees, but the condition of the course was not good. Tee boxes were generally in poor shape and a few were temporary. The greens were an odd shade of light green and ran unusually fast. I love the challenging layout of the course and hope conditions improve as the season progresses.
Hi! Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. Please know the current conditions are by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We will continue to work towards a 5-star experience and we hope to see you back!
Music on the course
Everything about Landing is terrific except for the fact that many golfers blast music from their carts disturbing everyone around them. This happens at this course far more than any others on Long Island. There is a reason they have signs that say "quiet" when golfers tee off. If golfers can't be respectful to their fellow players, course personnel should ensure they do.
