Somers You Win, Somers You Lose
Well run and standard issue public course in a wooded development. Driving range and putting green adds to country club feel. Staff and amenities all above average.
The course itself needs some help. None of these holes are for the faint of heart and ball loss to quality of course ratio is off. Unforgiving to a fault. Needs someone with golfing knowledge to adapt where possible. I realize land at a premium but let’s be serious. This is not a good layout.
DO NOT PLAY-Garbage
This is the worst course I have played in my entire life. From the moment you get there it is terrible. Staff are two rude goons dressed like fools that barely look you in the eye. The range and range balls are garbage. The course condition, layout, design, are awful. Course is burnt, fairways don’t exist, everything rolls OB. Good shots are punished, bad shots are lost. What a waste of land.
Not the worst, not the best
Varying Tee boxes are in rougher shape than others, but course needs more water overall. (I know we haven’t been getting much rain.) Greens we’re fairly quick but manageable, fairways were solid. You can see how much the water affects the course in positive and negative ways. Overall not a bad place to play, and not hard to get to. Would recommend to others.
Wanna challenge, go here
Narrow and windy with variety of topography, you'll enjoy what's around the next corner. Solid value too.
Thank you so much for the review! We appreciate your feedback and glad you enjoyed the course and hope to see you golfing with us soon.
fine layout
potentially a great and difficult course. badly groomed with rough that's unfair.
the staff ie the starter always seem less than friendly. hardly any amenities on course. ie noe ballwashers. yardage markers no cart w snacks/drinks.
that said a nice layout and often inexpensive.
so crazy terrible staff, too much poor service after rounding. I never want to go and play this club because of that staff

In pretty good condition
Quirky course but I like it. Makes me try to avoid trouble and use my head when taking a lot of the shots. Not a course for those obsessed with only a low score.those with a fragile ego should stay away those that truly enjoy the game will enjoy this course. Those that say it’s unfair might take a lessen about Life, and enjoy it
Thank you for your review! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your time at our course. We look forward to welcoming you back for another round!
Jerry, thank you for taking the time to share your comments. We’re very disappointed to learn that we did not live up to your expectations. The course conditions are a direct impact of the drought conditions we’ve experienced throughout the summer. It is not due to the lack of attention of the maintenance staff. We're still waiting on that much needed rain. At Somers National, we heavily rely on mother nature to generate enough natural water to feed the ponds situated throughout the course.
During your recent round, you’ve probably noticed the extremely low water levels of the ponds. We are a course that relies on adequate rainfall and we are more vulnerable to damage during a drought. We’ve encountered a spell of dry weather that we haven’t seen in many many years. In cases like this, there isn’t much our superintendent and operations team can do other than try to keep primary playing areas, like the greens, healthy and wait for rain. When grasses are stressed by lack of water, they go into drought-induced dormancy where growth slows and the grass loses color. In most cases, the grass is not dead and will regain its color once rain returns.
We try to make every guest aware of the situation and conditions prior to their rounds. We've noted the conditions prominently on our website as well as the booking confirmation notes.
Again, we are sorry we did not provide a positive experience. We are looking forward to better weather conditions in a few weeks. We hope you will give us another opportunity. At any time, please feel free to contact us at info@somersnational.com or 914-342-3273
