Unmown fairway at Somers Pointe West! Photo submitted by Natmare on 07/05/2013
Nice course a great price
It was the second day the course was opened for the 2022 season. It was almost empty, so that was a benefit felt like we had the course to ourselves. It was still a bit cold and windy, and the course has yet to be fully prepared for coming season. However, we got a great deal on tee-off and thoroughly enjoyed it. The course layout is very good and there are some narrow fairways. Knowing the course would really help in learning where to go for it vs where to lay up and on which side.

Very nice golf course. Narrow fairways, rolling hills. Happy to ride the cart here.
Beautifull views in fall time.
Challenging
Short narrow course from the golds. Play the whites for sure and stay straight
Thank you for sharing your honest review with us at Somer's and recommendation for others! We hope for the opportunity to welcome you back for another game soon!
Tough course made worse with extremely poor conditions
I get it there has been no rain but there are weeds growing on the tee box! The course is tough when it’s in good condition but it’s made way worse because it’s all dry and hard so a lot more roll on fairways that are tilted 30 deg and the ball just won’t stop.
For $80 I have played courses in much better condition. Save your money (and some balls) go elsewhere
Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. We’re very disappointed to learn that we did not live up to your expectations. The course conditions are a direct impact of the drought conditions we’ve experienced throughout the summer. It is not due to the lack of attention of the maintenance staff. We're still waiting on that much needed rain. At Somers National, we heavily rely on mother nature to generate enough natural water to feed the ponds situated throughout the course.
During your recent round, you’ve probably noticed the extremely low water levels of the ponds. We are a course that relies on adequate rainfall and we are more vulnerable to damage during a drought. We’ve encountered a spell of dry weather that we haven’t seen in many many years. In cases like this, there isn’t much our superintendent and operations team can do other than try to keep primary playing areas, like the greens, healthy and wait for rain. When grasses are stressed by lack of water, they go into drought-induced dormancy where growth slows and the grass loses color. In most cases, the grass is not dead and will regain its color once rain returns.
We try to make every guest aware of the situation and conditions prior to their rounds. We've noted the conditions prominently on our website as well as the booking confirmation notes.
Again, we are sorry we did not provide a positive experience. We are looking forward to better weather conditions in a few weeks. We hope you will give us another opportunity. At any time, please feel free to contact us at info@somersnational.com or 914-342-3273
Worst course I’ve ever played!
Please do not play here. I never played a course with conditions this terrible. All of the tee boxes are just dirt, all the fairways have barely any grass on it. This course has been left to ruin. Please don’t pay money to play here. Worst course I’ve ever played.
Everything is dead
There is virtually no grass, it’s like hitting off pavement

Fast greens and fairways
This is a court that challenges you in every way. It’s very narrow so driver may stay in the bag but I enjoy the challenge because it makes you focus that much more on making good decisions.
The recent lack of rain has made the fairways almost as fast as the greens!
I wouldn’t recommend for a beginner. But if you’re up for the challenge Blake sure to bring lots of balls.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! We're always striving to create a positive experience for all of our golfers and are very appreciative of feedback. We hope you'll visit us again soon.
Course is unplayable
First of all I get it, it's been a drought summer and it's impossible to keep courses in prestine condition especially for those lower end muni courses but this course has lost control of the course.
I'm not talking dormant rough or fairway grass but the entire course is burnt grass, concrete hard fairways. To make it worse the course is tight and has severely sloped fairways, hole 2 for example, is the first of the unplayable holes- par 5 with a large hill running down the length of the fairway on the left and the fairway is sloped left to right, all 4 of my playing partners hit the fairway then watched our balls roll into the woods. For giggles I dropped a ball from my pocket into the fairway to see if it would stay and it rolled right off the fairway into the woods. There's about 5/6 holes on the course that are similarly unplayable. The rest you can atleast keep the ball on the course.
This isn't a case of just drought conditions it's bad management, the greens and aprons are so wet that you leave spike marks as you walk and balls embed into the green if hit with low irons.
Like playing golf on concrete
Ive never written a review for anything but I feel people need to be aware that this course blows. Greens are alright but i literally was able to drop my ball and it came back up to my hand like I was on asphalt when in the fairway of many holes. The firmness of the course along with the hilliness made it not fun.
Course needs sprinklers and some aeration terribly
Course keeps getting worse
Horrible conditions, pretty much unplayable. Might as well be a par 3 course because fairways and course layout are an abomination. No kidding.
Older employee sitting at the starters stand was unfriendly and spoke down to us. Really cringy atmosphere, I almost left because of how brutal his attitude was
I’ve had fun playing here in the past - it’s sad. I don’t think I’ll play this golf course ever again.
Really poor for the price
Played end of may, was solid and friendly and decent shape. Played yesterday cost more $ and the fairways were burnt beyond belief and they don’t have sprinklers or tried to treat fairways. Even had staff tell me “we only worry about the greens”. Also it was 95 degrees no water jugs were filled and saw beverage cart 1 time end of 15th hole, no point! Very disappointed for the cost they didn’t even try to take care of anything except the greens. Will not be back
We are disheartened to read this review. We are sorry to hear you didn't have a more positive experience. We take feedback like this serious. We sincerely hope we may have another opportunity in the future to welcome you back for a better game and experience.
Jek
Greens were in good shape. Tee boxes and fairways were barren.
We appreciate you taking the time to write us this review. We will take this feedback into consideration for improvements. We hope we can welcome you back again for another game soon!
Good Course but can be better
Course is fun and challenging, tee boxes can use a touch up.
Thank you for sharing your honest 4-star review for Somers National Golf Club. We will take your feedback into consideration, as we continue to make improvements with out courses. We look forward to seeing you again soon for another round!
So much wasted opportunity
I really want to like this course…however a few glaring issues that could be easy fixes…with care and time.
Worries me that management has given up which I hope isnt the case.
1. Tee boxes are in poor shape. Guys, strip and re-seed.
2. Some Fairways are burnt out in areas and just simply not maintained. Whereas others along the track are meticulously maintained. Hole #3 has enormous opportunity to be your trademark hole except for the geese that use it as their bathroom.
3. Blow up hole #2….its built on the side of a hill and useless
4. I see the greens are becoming better which is appreciated but dont continue overusing the blue/green overspray
This course could be great if given time and care. The staff is pleasant. Hopefully new management is overseeing this to be a great course but currently its mid-level.

Tough Course
This is a very nice course and good value. The course is unforgiving with narrow, sloping fairways and lots of water hazards and woods. There are also a few dog-leg holes that are challenging for high handicappers like me.
Thank you for your honest feedback! We are thrilled you enjoy our course, and the challenges that come with it. We look forward to seeing you back for another round!
Good course for the money
The course is short but challenging due to the slopes and dog legs, that are featured in many of the holes. Some of the tee boxes were in bad shape, and made it uneven footing to tee off, the fairways were in pretty good shape, the greens are very tricky and fast. Overall the course was enjoyable and would play again.
