Great Public Course

This course has everything! The people who work here are exceptional at what they do. The course is beautiful, and it is cared for with pride and professionalism. The layout is spectacular! Every hole is a unique, picturesque challenge. The fairways are in great conditions, and the greens, although challenging, are fast, true, and fair. My experience at Greystone was enjoyable from the time I arrived, until the time I left.

Great course

By far the finest golf course I have played in many years. But it wasn't just the golf, it was the whole experience. From the checking in at the pro shop to handing the cart back in at the end of the round, everyone was helpful, professional and courteous. The course itself was well cared for and surprisingly, for this time of year, was still in excellent shape. This was no doubt due to it being so well managed throughout the season. If you want a great day of upscale golf this is the place to go!

Top tier links-style course, but 19th hole closes early on weekends!

I'm going to give Greystone an A- (minus).
This is one of the top public links-style courses in the Rochester area along with Ravenwood and Mill Creek.
Well-maintained and challenging.
Lots of different tee boxes to match your skill level.
Driving range hits slightly uphill.
But they don't give you the full golf outing experience. I'll explain.

We finished our round at 6:15 pm on a warm, sunny Sunday in early August - the middle of the summer, right? - and the bar was closed.
We were so disappointed!
And the back 9 behind us was full of players still out on the course.
I called later in the week and the restaurant manager said the bar closes at 5 or 5:30 - that's the way the owners want it.
Well, that's not good customer service is it?
It's a classy golf themed pub and they have a beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the 18th green. And one of the fun things to do is sit outside with your drink and watch players in the fairway try to hit the green over a large pond in front.
So we had to drive almost 10 miles to the nearest town to quench our thirst because this course is out in the middle of nowhere.

The next Sunday we played an afternoon round at Ontario Golf Club which is about 30 min. from Rochester - and not much further than Greystone. It is under a new owner who BTW had just sponsored the Thunderbirds Air Show at the Rochester airport!
The clubhouse and bar have been refurbished. Their large outdoor patio overlooking the 18th green was humming with players like ourselves and dinner guests including several families. And THEY HAD LIVE MUSIC!
Our 4-some all agreed - they do it up right and it capped off a fun day!
The course at Ontario Golf Club is just as nice and well-maintained as Greystone, although it's a more traditional design - not links-style.
So if you look forward to the 19th hole after your weekend afternoon round - make sure the bar will be open!

Great condition, fun course

Played Greystone first thing in the morning at 6 am. The staff was extremely helpful and the course was in great condition. The undulating greens were in great shape and the perfect speed for the amount of slope in each green. Although it is not a true links course, it’s still a fun course with some links style elements.

I had not played this course in over 15 years and was excited to see how it held up through the years. I was not disappointed. After playing the course I hoped to return before my vacation ended. Unfortunately my schedule and open tee times did not align. I recommend this course for anyone in the Rochester area who is looking for a challenging round of golf on a course that is in great shape (tees to green, including bunkers). I look forward to returning the next time I’m in the area.

What a Gem

A friend originally from the Rochester area recommended this course while I was on a quick business trip in the area. As a single, I called the day before and they offered me choices to head out early by myself or join a group. I played alone, and was behind a twosome, but decided not to play through and enjoy my round. I still finished in under 3 hours. Spectacular track, superb conditions, only advice I had was that they could have charged me twice the amount and I still would have been impressed with the value.

Great Course

I can only say, we will be back soon, condition and layout are better than most private clubs. Visually stunning when standing on most if not all tee boxes. Just a great place, get out here if you can, drive 2 or 3 hours, its worth it.

Beautiful, challenging course!

We took our son and his girlfriend to play 18 at The Links at Greystone and had the best experience. From the moment we walked in the pro shop to the waiter at dinner after golf- everyone was welcoming and smiling. You could tell the workers love to work there. The course is so beautiful and fun to play! It was so economical and we found out they have an awesome deal for 9 and dine on the weekends. We look forward to going back and doing that. The food was AMAZING at their Stoney’s Pub. We all loved our food selections! You must try this place. A total hidden gem!

Uneven Lies does not lead to Uneven fun

I grew up in Rochester, NY but didn't find my love of golf till I moved west. Every time I visit home (at least when the weather is nice) I try and get out to The Links at Greystone as I know it will be a true test of where my game is at.

If you can get it off the tee (and put it where you need to go) you have opportunities to make par / score. However if you miss it in certain areas be prepared to look for your ball in heavy rough and native areas. If you do mishit a ball and are able to find it, be prepared to play with some uneven lies. The undulation through out LaG is real and you will need to know how to hit the ball above and below your feet. It's a challenging course and makes you take into account all factors (weather, distance, slope, etc) and is not the course that you can overpower but more so have to respect to score well.

The overall shape of the course was great and the views can not be beat. They are also clearing some areas to which I think opens the golf course a bit more, which I enjoy more so than tight alley way courses.

If you're a golfer who cares about a challenge and challenging his or her game, this is a course I would recommend.

Top Course in Rochester

I’ve been playing golfing in Western NY for 30+ years and I can say without a doubt this is the best course in the area. Unique layout, immaculately kept, and picturesque views at every turn. I played this past week after some heavy spring rain and the course had drained really well compared to another course I played recently.

10 out of 10.

Great course, poor pace

This is one of the premier golf courses in the Rochester area. I brought out of town guests on a Friday afternoon and was VERY disappointed in that it took 5 hours to play. I called the clubhouse when there were 3 4somes waiting to tee off on the back 9 and things never improved. While longer than any round of golf in recent memory, we had a great day to play and made the most of our time, talking to the groups in front of and behind us throughout the round.

Beautifully Maintained

The course was in wonderful shape. Cart’s were clean and ran smooth. The grounds were beautiful with flowers and plantings everywhere.
Saw a lot of grounds people doing a great job fixing and touching up the place. Greens were in great shape even if I didn’t play them well.
The staff was friendly, helpful and considerate.
