Not for the Faint of Heart or Players with Back Issues
This is a very challenging course for the average golfer. It's designed well and the views of the course and the surrounding area are often stunning. Fairways are in good shape for mid-summer and greens are in excellent condition. The course is in the midst of building a new clubhouse, and the stand-in facility is dingy and very poorly stocked, as is the beverage cart. The biggest issue I have with the course is that it has less than Third World cart paths that cannot be avoided at times because of long distances between greens and tees. If you have any, and I mean any,, back issues do NOT play this course. My second issue is that carts are in dreadful shape and, in my case, unreliable as the engine quit on my twice. The whole fleet needs to be replaced.
Four Reasons Not to Play West Point Golf Course Now
We had a very disappointing experience at WP Golf Course for four reasons.
First, the fairways are being aerated and the dirt plugs are all over the course.
Second, we were not told by the starter or the pro shop that the course was being aerated today. We were told not to drive on any of the fairways which had been aerated
Third, the greens are super fast and the ball doesn't stay on the greens
Fourth, the pace of play is too slow with backups at every hole.
It may get better after all the work is done but I wouldn't recommend playing there until late September.
Great, but challenging course.
It was my first time playing here and it took a toll on my score (LOL). I look forward to going back and finding some of the birdies I left behind.
Good Day at WP
Always a good day when you play at West Point. Difficult but fair layout, conditions are always good. WP is one of the best public courses in the Hudson Valley
Sloping Greens
The course is in good shape but the greens are impossible with big slopes and very fast. The ball lands on the green and rolls right off. The cart paths are broken and torn apart. The hole signage is hard to find. The hills on the fairway roll your ball off the fairway. Pace of play was slow. Starting on the 5th hole because the clubhouse was moved makes no sense. If they're not rebuilding the old clubhouse, they should re-number the holes. There are water hazards across almost every hole. There is very limited food available after playing so we went to a real restaurant to eat afterwards.
The worst staff on one of the best area golf courses

Not up to par
Played on Veterans Day, there was a football game at Westpoint which meant heavy traffic..took 30min longer than usual. The greens were aerated and excruciatingly slow. There were leaves everywhere including fairways and greens, would lose balls on the fairway and practically impossible to putt. Would not recommend playing here at this time of year...maybe things will be better next spring or summer. Staff wasn’t friendly either.
Greens were airrated
Love this course but greens were airrated and Sand traps were washed out. They had gotten lots of rain the night before. This course plays longer then the yardage says... I'll have to wait til next year to play this course again when it will be in great condition.
Rude staff, only 9 holes open,
Staff was rude! Not fans of golf now!
2:40pm tee time, for 18 holes, no one at the course. Wouldnt let us out even a few minutes before scheduled tee time. Then says be back here with the cart by 5:45pm Felt like they were trying to punish me!
Showed up as a lieutenant was knock down to a buck private
WOW ! Golf Now you are not wanted here ! From the moment we arrived our 4 some and the 4 some in front of us who also booked through Golf Now. We were ready the riot act right from the moment we arrived. We got there 30 mins early and we were told we could not speak to the cashier in the make shift golf shop until 10 minute before our tee time ( 2:40 for a 2:50 tee time) , and would not be allowed on the 1st Tee until exactly 2:50 pm our tee time . ( even know there were on other golfers around ) . We were also made to sign a form which said they have the right to remove us from the course at any time and they did ! We were not allowed to use the golf cart to bring golf bags to or from our cars because we were golf now customers only non golf now customers were allowed to. Then the Starter informed us we were not on his list and would not be allowed to golf . We had to go back to the Ski Lodge aka golf pro shop and go through the whole process again with a special paper saying we could golf . Now it was 10 minutes past our tee time and we were being told we would not be allowed on the course after 6:00 pm and would be rounded up if we didn't return by 6:00 pm. after this fun start we enjoyed a bit of good golf until 4:30 when we were being stalked by the ranger who keep shouting 6:00 pm closing head in by 5:45 .. he kept this up again at 5:00 pm then 5:30 and finally at 5:46 we were forced to leave the course while only playing 14 holes . The sun was still shinning bright and there was plenty of day light left to play. I never have been thrown off a course before this was the most awful experience you could imagine . and we weren't the only ones the 4 some in front of us also were tossed and had the same bad experience . They too booked through Golf Now. Beware Golf Now Customers you will be court Marshaled ! I don't know why they hate Golf Now but why treat Golfers with such disrespect ! We are customers I don't care if I paid $5 or $100 this was no way to treat a customer who normally would tip the starter , and buy hats and shirt from the pro shop after all it is West Point ! Wow , Wow , Wow Shame on them !
The cashier was rude
My tee time was 2:50
We were there at 2:20 the cashier said come back at t2:30 when i was there at 2:30 he told me again come back at 2:40
Obviously he try to give me hard time for nothing
I wonder is this your policy to make people obnoxious when we get through golf now?
West Point does care about the Public
We had a tee time just after the Army was practicing. They would not let us get a cart till 10 minutes before our teetime. No one told us before booking that the carts had to be in 6:30 and we went out 2:40. VERY UNFAIR!!! And no one bothered to tell us that they changed the hole numbers and we could not understand why our Garmin watches were not working. Which greatly changed how we played the holes with no known distance. They could care less about the public players.
