A walk through history
I love courses that merge history and golf. Each hole has a small part of US History and West Point which is a cool touch. The course is really unique and if you don’t hit it straight you will have a long day. I’ve played a few RTJ tracks and this one is pretty different because it’s on a tight and mountainous track of land. Interesting fact is they used German POWs during WW2 to help build the course. So you start off on the 5th hole as they are redoing the house, which by the way, the new one looks so cool. You check in at the ski lodge right behind the mint, but right now the range is closed which is tough feel after a 90 minute ride. Make sure you get the speed and reads of the greens because today they were fast and there were a few that snapped hard. Holes 8 and 9 are back to back 5s with one being extremely uphill and the other extremely downhill. There’s a par 3 that’s very far downhill and almost blind. All in all I love the routing and there’s very few flat lies to be found. Definitely a frustrating round but will be so much more enjoyable the next time around. Go Army, beat everyone!
A must play in the Hudson Valley
I make a pilgrimage once a year to this hidden gem in the Hudson Valley region. Can feel the history of West Point as you play each unique hole. A Must play!
West Point, a U.S. institution
As soon as you get a glimpse of west point golf course, you know you’re in for a treat the staff by far friendliest in Rockland County.
Steve has a wonderful team . lovely welcome from starter. Now the golf course is in phenomenal shape for all the rain that Rockland county had received with the flooding, would not reflect any at all on the golf course. Wonderful for all skill levels, greens beautiful fairways tee boxes are very nice the breathtaking vistas and views on some of the tees and some of the greens best in New York State.A fair challenge for all skill levels.BUT BEWARE OF FAST GREENS that are in amazing shape. Thank you very much. Supt staff and greenskeeper staff is doing an amazing job. Keep it up and visitors enjoy the all inspiring history lesson on every Teebox to make everybody realize how lucky we are to live in the United States of America. Thanks to all of the fabulous wonderful military professionals coming out of West Point. Thanks again West Point golf course always a pleasure. The golf course played so well on the August 2 that I played again on August 3 and played just as amazing. Thanks again so much. Have a great day all the best. God bless America.
Nuce layout, good condition, pace of play was average. This is probably because of all the Par 3’s.
Not a long course, but hilly with many elevated greens. A few holes have streams crossing fairways. Conditions mostly good despite recent flooding, but bunkers took a big hit and most were unplayable. Friendly staff, will play again
The most friendly experience
First time playing the course, after years of "thinking" about it. Absolutely beautiful...course condition, course layout. Just a joy to be there. Shout out also to Steve in the pro shop and Lawrence, the starter. They worked so well together to get me and my playing partner onto the "first" (5th) hole. Can't wait for the new clubhouse to be built. Looks fantastic. Thank you West Point GC.
Could be better
Let me start by saying I booked on GolfNow and after driving an hour to get there, the cashier said he didn't have us registered. I showed him my confirmation, and he just shrugged his shoulders saying we weren't in the system and nothing he could do. He suggested we check with the starter to see if he could slip us in somewhere. Walked down to the starter and he had us on the tee sheet. Back to the cashier who was having the same conversation with the people in front of us. Serious miscommunication going on here! We did however end up teeing off on time and finished the round in just over 4 hours. From tee to green the course was in fabulous condition, EXCEPT for the bunkers. Bunkers were all but unplayable! Had to take a drop outside them...that bad (no sand). My only other complaint was no halfway house or beverage cart. But they did have water coolers, which is very rare these days.
elevation changes galore
As a 14 handicap used to walking 18 on a reasonably flat course I found the elevation changes and uneven lies challenging. The rate included a cart and a very nice lunch which was unexpected. Course is wooded off the fairways and demands some accuracy both off the tee and into the small greens. I thoroughly enjoyed the round and would definitely recommend it and will return.
They’ve gotten a ton of rain up there in recent weeks. Bunkers probably got hammered
