Challenging for occasional golfers
played Forest park 9/5.course is a little difficult for p/t golfers like myself.conditions were excellent.no wait time, actually teed off 10 min early. Pace was good, never more than few min wait. Hope to play there a few more times over next 2 months.
4 stars? How?
The idea of the course great. But some notice of areas under repair would be nice. Greens were jacked up. Pace of play was extremely slow. On the best day of the course corrected a hard 3.5. Cant see 4 at all which was what drew me to book the course. Thanks for the experience. But I will not be back.
Quirky greens and narrow fairways
Short track (6,053) from the tips but really tiny greens with narrow fairways.
The greens were a bit quirky with defensive mounding on the front side for at least 2 greens. Other greens had two tiers but the breaks were not too severe.
There were also at least two holes where bank shots are possible, one on a dogleg right Par 4 that had a strategic mogul on the left side that I was able to land my ball and bounce right towards the hole.
The other hole was a short dogleg left Par 4 that had a back stop behind the hole.
Green conditions on at least 2 greens were a bit on the severe side - cracking over a 2 feet area in several spots as well as multiple unrepaired pitchmarks.
Tee boxes conditions were below average with more than a couple having a bare surface devoid of grass. However, impeccable improvements may be on the way with also more than a couple of the tee boxes cordoned off and covered as under repair.
The fairways were a bit narrow for the first 100 yards on more than a couple of Par 4 holes. The width was probably around 30 yards wide.
Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the track with a really good score of 84 anchored by 10 one-putts that was also helped by the tiny greens.
Pace of play was good at 4 hours and 20 minutes due to few golfers who knew that the course was open. Snow cover melted the day before after 10 days of snow cover due to two successive snow storms a week before that dropped 5” and 3” in a 4 days period. Most courses on Long Island were still closed due to snow cover.
Other notes:
[1] No driving range
[2] Practice green is beside tee box # 1
[3] Restroom is located outside the clubhouse on the left side; Well-maintained/clean with hot water
[4] No hot snacks available
Management needs to do better
1. How about color coding the flags like red white blue to indicate pin placement like any normal course?
2. How about a benches at every tee box to wait out the inevitable slow play waits?
3. How about reminding players to repair ball marks on the greens??
Very very slow. 7hr round
Management need to speed up beginners and Instagram picture takers. Last time I played it was a 6.5 hour round. I left this time after it took 3.5hrs to play 9 holes. Still gave them 4 stars and hoping they read this!!
Marshall Needed
The staff has to care enough about the paying customers to send out a Marshall a few times a day to check pace of play. Five and a half hour round on a Monday unacceptable. The group in front fell 3.5 holes behind!!! Get on a cart and check out what’s happening
Great course
My first time playing here, my second time playing golf overall, great field
