More Work Needed Here
I am told that some work has been done to improve Long Creek Club recent, but having played there today it has a ways to go. The grass in the fairways and on the tees was very inconsistent, and several of the greens were burnt out. We moved the ball around on a number of fairways to get a decent lie.
Design-wise, the course is interesting, with long and short holes, some dog legs, and sand traps guarding a number of greens. I had to hit almost all of the clubs in my bag during my round. The distance was a good challenge both for me (white tees) and my wife (red tees).
Pace of play was very good. We finished in 4 hours just sort of meandering around.
Unfortunately, with alot of ups and downs and long distances from greens to tee, the course is NOT walkable. The $20 green fee with cart we found on the course's web site made walking a non-issue though.
Outside of golf proper, the course is doing some interesting things to draw interest. The have "foot golf," where people kick a soccer ball down the fairway toward a hole, night golf with illuminated balls, and corn hole tournaments.
I hope the course continues to improve because it is a great location and the layout of the course is pretty nice. But for now there are better options in the Winston-Salem area, for me at least.
friendly staff, course has a good layout, convenient location
There was very little traffic on the course so you can easily get in 9 holes in about an hour. The staff are friendly.
The greens need quite a bit of attention
Crab grass and bare spots on greens. Fairways are like a mowed cow pasture. I like the layout of the course but I won't be returning unless I know they've made improvements to the fairways and greens.
Round around the edges
To be fair, the wet summer has probably stymied attempts to keep the course in good playing conditions. Goose grass has invaded the greens and the fairways are in need of work (#1, #2 and #9 come to mind). Cart paths are old. Every since the proposed Muddy Creek bypass, this course has been a target and dramatic improvements haven't come. I couldn't pass up the great deal on GolfNow.com and actually enjoyed playing this track again after 15+ years. Nice layout. Could be a really nice course again some day.
People are great; Greens terrible
The folks at Long Creek were great, but the course is not all that spectacular. The tee boxes and greens are very sub-par. Other than that, the layout is average.
Great Layout & Design
Long Creek is a nice course in historic Bethania. The course design is challenging and offers a fast pace of play. Play there, tell others so the new staff can bring it up to its full potential. Great deal.
this course is a dried up goat path...need i say more
got t-boned in the parking lot by the workers at the golf course..he was driving careless and wrecked into us and flipped our carts..
Needs attention
The course has some serious issues on the greens. There are a lot of dead spots and they do not roll true at all. The fairways are high.
DO NOY PLAY THIS COURSE.
This golf course is in very poor condition. The greens are bare in many places and are covered with crabgrass, The fairways are in poor shape. I had played this course many times in the past and was very disappointed on my return. This course needs to close and do a complete remake.
Terrible maintenance.
We lost balls in the fairways due to high grass , greens were awful dead patches all over. Not much fun !
Trying hard
Long Creek was in fair shape considering the weather challenges they've had recently. The extra rain played havoc with Muddy Creek and the front nine in June, but they are working hard to get it back in better condition. The layout is still a nice challenge and the staff is working hard to bring this course up to where it once was.
the fair way and tee box was like playing in my back yard
the course has a great lay out most of the greens were terrible some was ok. the fair way and tee box was covered in weeds and tall grass. The cart path was missing in a lot of areas.
Nice for a practice round...
I played on a day when the rain had just come through for a few days, so they had some drainage issues and they had not cut the fairways, so the course was damp and slow. I however do not consider that the fault of management. They were just pressed by the weather. I play here frequently and enjoy the course. Its not a super difficult course, but its a nice cheap alternative if you just want to get a practice round in and keep yourself tuned up. Most greens are in decent condition with a few that need some help. Overall I recommend this course if you get a hot-deal tee time. I don't think I would pay $20 to play it given that there are better courses near here for that price.
This course needs a lot if work!
My home course was have a tournament so I found this deal on golf now. This course needs a lot of work. It was kind of like playing in your backyard.
Will never attempt to play here again
My stepfather and I decided to try and play here on Good Friday. We made a reservation through Golfnow and showed up 20 minutes before our tee time. Upon arriving I was immediately turned off by a practice hole that was in horrible condition. I hoped this was not an indication of how the course looked. We payed and went to the first hole. As I was paying I spoke with the attendant and said I was eager to see what this course was like. She said, "Well we have a lot of work to do to get where we should be and we know that but have fun". Not a good sign. There were three groups waiting to tee off with several others ahead and no ranger to manage who goes when. The line did not move for 20 minutes. Most of the golfers had obviously never played before. The guys in front of us said if they were us they would leave because the pace of play and conditions were so awful. They had tried starting on the back nine but it took them 3 hours to play that. After 10 more minutes we went back in to get our money back. I have NEVER had to do that anywhere. The staff was nice enough but they absolutely need to do a HUGE amount of work on the course itself and the management of it. I will not go back.
Everything at this course is in poor shape
All 18 greens were being aeriated with no advance notice. There was no reduction in green fees for that. There was very little grass to be found on fairways (mostly weeds). We had a gas cart that we had to choke every time we moved or it would not go at all (temperature was in 50's to 60). Took both of us to keep from rolling backwards if we had to stop then start on a hill. Hill brake cut loose on its own once. We played in just under 4 hours and were right on the heels of the group in front of us but two Tiger wannabes hit into us twice. Manager was complaining about GolfNow scheduling tee times when he had a 12 man gangsome scheduled at same time. Not enjoyable at all. Wouldn't play again if it was free!!!
Poor conditions!
75 % of the greens had an abundace of dead spots and/or sprigs of crabgrass growing on them. #5 green is still terrible. This course looks like there is no greens keeper. A couple of the fairways are just 1" high grass and the rough needs attention as well.
I really like this layout but will not be back until they get it back to at least "decent" conditions.
We played for $16 each but this course was still no bargain.
Super friendly
Staff was super friendly. Course was suffering from creek overflow (the entire region has been under onslaught) which I cannot blame on the course. They seem to have recovered well from the storms. Several holes were very challenging and required you to think outside the bag fro some shots.
