Accuracy over Distance
Friendly staff. Challenging and Fun course even for a 13hcp like me. Water and/or creeks perimeter every hole so accuracy rewards over distance on a majority of holes. Will definitely be back again to see how it plays in the Spring/Summer.
Stay in play, Water and/or creeks perimeter a majority of the holes.
Challenging and fun course. Will definitely be back. Accuracy rewards way more than distance here.
Lochmere - slowest pace of play in the Triangle.
Lochmere's pace of play is absolutely painstakingly slow. They have starters on the first tee and also roaming about the course, but this doesn't seem to make a difference in helping players finish a round in under 4 hours. It took 3.5 hours to play 13 holes, before darkness set in. Mind you, this was on a Monday afternoon in November (it would be slightly more understandable to have more of a wait between shots on a public/semi-private course on the weekends where the courses are much busier...but to be subject to this on a Monday afternoon was quite frustrating). This could have more to do with the type of player that Lochmere seems to attract - lots of beginning players who seem to have very little clue about golf etiquette and pace of play considerations, as well as senior players who are primarily focused on getting their exercise via walking/using a push cart rather than actually observing pace of play. I used to live in the Triangle and played Lochmere consistently, mentally preparing myself in advance of each round that pace of play very well could be much slower than what I would prefer/expect. That seems to have remained the case.
The greens are in great shape and have been improved significantly since the last time I played at Lochmere 2+ years ago. Give credit where it is due - the course was in very good shape and seems to be less impacted by water than it used to in prior years, where standing water accumulated and sat for weeks on end during the rainier times of year.
Great conditions!
Considering it’s the height of leaf season, the course was in excellent shape and leaves weren’t a problem for us. Thanks go to the ground crews for clearing the fairways of leaves. I played another local course a few days earlier and we lost several balls in leaf covered fairways. Makes the round more enjoyable and quicker when leaves have been cleared as they are doing at Lochmere. One tee box was under repair where we had to hit from a mat but it wasn’t a problem. They are clearly investing in improving their product for the players which is nice to see. Greens are in great shape.
Lochmere is a solid choice
This was my first time visiting Lochmere. The immediate vibe I got was that the people here take their golf seriously. Lots of people on the range on a Tuesday. I was hooked up with a flat-belly and an retired FDNYC captain. We played from the same tees and we all had fun. The layout is a nice mix of challenging and easy holes; if any golf hole can be called easy! The course condition is in the top 80% of those I've played. Super friendly staff. If I lived around here, Lochmere would be on my Rota.
Great Course to Play
I was extremely pleased with the course and the amenities. Everything was right there from the momment I chalked in
As usual, a nice day on the course
We've not had a ton of rain recently so the course was in very good condition (Lochmere is in the Swift Creek watershed and can flood easily). Greens as always were running at a good pace and very well maintained. Pace of play was very good. Fair warning - this isn't always the case, but post COVID that's true EVERYWHERE. I've always found the staff super friendly. Clubhouse is somewhat pedestrian (but always kept very presentable). Bottom line - have played before plenty of times, will continue to come back.
Nice course
2nd time playing this course, good course, nice greens. Pace of play was slow though, 18 holes in 4 hrs and 25 minutes is not great. Overall enjoyed the course.
Great to be back
Haven't been to Lochmere in a couple of years. Last time I played, it was overbooked regularly and pace of play was always slow. It was great to see a starter on the 1st tee as well as his frequent laps to ensure pace of play continued as you would hope.
Greens and fairways were excellent!
The course was in great shape
Course was in great shape. Had not played here in quite a while but enjoyed the round.
