Oak Island Golf Club
About
Oak Island Golf Club in Caswell Beach sits right along the ocean, offering one of the most memorable coastal Carolina golf experiences. During a round, golfers will most likely be joined by the course's abundant wildlife inhabitants, including waterfowl and alligators. The relatively flat course is wide-open, subjecting it to the blustery ocean breezes. The wind is definitely the most challenging factor on the golf course, with proof provided by the wind-shaped live oaks and Yaupon trees that are scattered throughout. Water hazards come into play on nine holes. There are also 37 strategically placed bunkers and challenging rough areas. Oak Island Golf Club is tough even for more advanced players, especially on a windy day, but it is more forgiving than it seems so beginners shouldn't feel too intimidated.

a bit dissapointed
new to town, wandered down to Oak Island golf, had read some nice reviews online. Maybe it's just due to early season, but not impressed at all. Came from Delmarva (MD / DE) area, play lots of ocean or close to ocean courses. this was not a good value. Maybe at $45, I would not have expected as much but at $65, expected more. Off fairway was messy. Lots of dead spots, hardpan. no real 'second cut' - fairway and rough blended together. Traps were in avg condition at best. greens were quick, but bumpy. one of the starters was very rude, there was a very nice gentleman named Larry. Practice area is is shambles, much to be desired. I had higher expectations, I won't be rushing back. Maybe by May, it will grow in and lush up some? Decent layout.
Great Course
What a fun course! It’s quite tight, but still a very fun track. The greens were very slick. They’re also very undulating. It’s pretty close to the ocean, so the winds can be pretty tough. I will definitely be back!
Great beach course
The course is challenging but still a good choice for all who love to play. It is right next to the ocean and you can hear the surf coming up the 9th and 18th fairways at high tide. It’s flat enough to walk (when allowed at certain times of the day and depending on the season). The new clubhouse is almost finished and it’s going to be beautiful. If you are visiting the island it’s the closest course around; very convenient.
Windy and Beautiful Seaside Course
A Charles Cobb designed gem of a course. The ocean winds are always a factor on this course, even on the holes the wind through the yaupon oak lined fairways. Each hole is unique and provide its own set of challenges,. Most of the greens are small, raised and well bunkered, The greens run smooth and fast, as you have to always be aware of the slope. I have found the course to always be in excellent shape and the bunkers are always raked. Its a course that is sporty and brings you back again and again.
The staff are all friendly and attentive to your needs. The bag drop people drive over to your car and load your clubs right there. The most memorable holes for me are 9 & 18 and they are exposed to the ocean winds. They are almost complete with their new club house that includes a restaurant and a well-stocked pro shop.
You'll be sure to fall in love with Oak Island Golf Course.
Serene beauty on the island
Could not have had a better afternoon. Gorgeous fall day on a virtually empty course. Great new friends golf foursome, terrific conditioning and totally playable for the 25 index that I am. The course is challenging from the forward tees but inherently fair for the average female golfer. Greens are smallish but don’t kill you with hyper speediness. There’s a new clubhouse being built so amenities are limited. If you like hotdog for lunch then you’re good and the price is definitely right. I played late making it in just before sundown so cart service was not part of the program, but everything was delightful about this course. No ocean views but plenty of interesting wildlife.
Brunswick County Gem
A beautiful, old style golf course. Fast, Smooth and Undulating Greens are always a challenge. Fairways are comfortable in width and excellent condition. Tees are always in good shape. Wildlife abound especially on the 4th hole where there were 7 gators there recently. Bag Drop staff is friendly and will drive your golf cart to your car and let you drive it up to the clubhouse. Talk about service! The pro shop staff and Starters are also friendly and will give you some goof hints for playing the course. The ocean is right across the street and the wind can be fierce. The layout is very challenging with smallish greens that have many deep traps, but do have areas in front to bail out. Bring your A-Game and hit the right clubs and you'll have a round you'll never forget.
