Hawthorne
This was first time at FoPo in along time. Course was in excellent shape. Staff was very friendly and played 9 holes in 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon. Would definitely go back
Classic golf course in the heart of the city of St. Louis.
Yes, its noisy, especially on a Saturday morning with plenty of sun. It was a windy day and temps in the high 50's, The course is a classic and never easy. I enjoyed it even though my score of 97. Great to get out on 4/20/24!!
Recently Aerated, Overpriced & Conditioning Not The Best
We played the Redbud/Dogwood nines, which are the two nines you want to play. The course gets a lot of play and is a decent course.
I thought the price of $50 was too high for early April, considering the course was recently aerated. I played Far Oaks a couple days earlier this week and it is a much better course. Has better design, conditioning and cost less than $50.
I thought the conditioning had slipped some. Several tees not in good shape. Most of the fairways were decent but there were some bad spots.
The tree by the green on hole #8 on Redbud needs to be trimmed. When pin is on the left, your approach shot will hit the tree limbs.
Pace of Play
Took us 5 and a half hours to play 18. We could see multiple groups in front of us waiting too so it wasn’t a problem with just one slow group but a problem with the course overbooking. Greens were pretty bumpy from aeration too. This round was my yearly reminder why I rarely play here.
Excellent course!
One of the best courses I’ve played so far. I’m still a beginner with a high handicap and was nervous about playing here. The staff was friendly, the course was beautiful and not too difficult, but also not too easy. Location is ideal. 10/10 experience
Winter Golf Fun
First group off on this cold morning. 15 minute wait for frost to dissipate. Course conditions were fine. Some bunkers were unraked. Winter tees are set, but it would be nice to set tees for the women's tees too. Fun, interesting course. Lots of history and old world design elements.
Early Bird Gets the 3 Hour Round!
We got to the course twenty minutes before our tee time. At five minutes before tee time, pro shop finally opened. Somebody missed their alarm? We were the first group on the course. Played in three hours flat. Course is in pretty good shape. Greens are still bumpy from being pin punched a few weeks ago. Bunkers need raking. Great day for early December. Fun layout that is scenic but not overly difficult.
Family foursome
Played with 3 of my family. We had a great round of golf. Course was in good shape - hard and fast. Staff was helpful and friendly. Course is scenic with lots of elevation changes. Lots of old school touches from the past with newer architectural changes. Course gets a lot of play - greens had just been punched and hadn't been topdressed with sand so putting was an adventure! Overall- very playable trending to the "easy" as evidenced by the Course rating.
Always Exceeds Your Expectations
I played the Dogwood/Redbud courses. I like these 2 nines the best because of the different type of holes. The Hawthorne nine is completely flat.
For a city municipal course that gets plenty of play, this course always exceeds your expectations. They hold numerous tournaments at this course and they have the planning/administration of tournaments down to a science.
I noticed they cut some of the vegetation in front of the tee boxes to open up the beauty of the holes. Well done.
Thank you David for your 5 star review. We are happy to see that you had a good experience with us. Looking forward to having you back soon!
Thank you Danny for the 5 stars. We hope you to see you again soon!
Challenging Course with beautiful elevations
Found the course challenging witth lots of hills, sand traps and other hazards. Nice looking course with fantastic elevations with view of the city. The course play started out quite well but seemed to slow down as the day went on.
Overall a nice experience, but would need to play the course a few times to get used to the layout.
Thank you for the kind words. We are happy you enjoyed the courses. Hope to see you again soon!
Course Gets Plenty Of Play, Always In Decent Shape
It always amazes me how much play the Forest Park Golf Courses get and the course is always is good shape. They are a very well-organized unit there also.
I played the Dogwood/Hawthorne nines. Dogwood starts out hilly on the first 3 holes and then it is flat for the remainder. The Hawthorne nine is completely flat.
The only complaints I have of the course is the high weeds/native grass that is in front of the holes. Really takes away from the beauty of the holes and makes the hole a blind shot. Examples are: Dogwood 7, 8, Hawthorne 2 & 5.
I thought the price of $68 was on the high side. I can play Spencer T. Olin in the $50 range and the best course in the area (Annbriar) for $75.
They still use the the small flag on the flagstick to indicate front, middle or back. Please go with a colored flagstick flag approach, like most courses do,
Thank you for the review. We will share your feedback with our team. Look forward to seeing you again soon.
Thank you for the 5-star review!
Great City Golf
Beyond the friendly staff and pristine facilities, the course offers lush fairways, well maintained tee boxes, and fast greens that make you work! The layout on any of the three 9hole courses is varied as well as interesting . Great views of the park and city await. Pre 7am tee off is a plus!
Thank you so much for all the nice comments and review. We hope to see you again soon.
