This is the "One"
Having moved to the area in 2016 I played all the local courses. I could go on and on about the issues I found on all the locals with the exception of this course. Salem Glen Country Club is without doubt the best overall golfing experience in the area. The course conditions are always excellent, the staff is exceptional and will always provide a smile and help if needed, the maintenance crew takes much pride in their course and it shows. This course suites players of all capabilities ranging from 5000 yards to over 7000 yards with 5 sets of tee boxes. Beautiful quick bent grass greens with just the right amount of undulation that will challenge players of all levels. I play much golf in the Myrtle Beach area and this course compares to some of their best in every way.
After playng here many times I decided to become a member. This is the best golfing decision I have made in years. The golfing events put on by both an outstanding Men's Club and the course are fantastic. Daily, and membership prices are very reasonable. Whether your a nomad golfer that plays everywhere, a local looking for great conditions and a great experience, or someone considering joining a golf club I give Salem Glen Country Club 5 stars and my highest recommendation.
The par 3's are tricky and can play very difficult, the par 4's provide the right amount of both short and long holes and the par 5's are some of the best in the Carolina's. The 3rd shot into the par 5, 14th ranging from 75 to 120 yards is the most demanding 3rd shot into a par five that I have ever played. You have got see this for yourself. With just the right amount of water hazards, wide smooth fairways in spots, smooth fast greens, you have got to play this course and I am sure you will come to the same conclusions I did! PLAY THIS COURSE!
Salem glen
Very good course. Totally different course between front and back nine extremely slow play but it was an exceptional spring day nice club house and staff
Good test. Fair
Need marshal to control pace of play. Only negative
Zero complaints
Other than Mother Nature making it rough with 25 mph winds it was a great time saw maybe 3 other groups out the whole time felt like we had the course to ourselves, greens rolled true and smooth fairways were maintained overall great course
Excellent course
Highly recommend this course. Everything and everyone was perfect.
Fabulous Greens
First time playing here. Nice course. Front and back nines present quite a bit differently. A few quirky Nicklaus design features, like an illogical bunker in the middle of the second shot landing area on number 7, but overall a solid design. Fairways and tees in good shape. Bunkers well maintained (and soft!). Greens were truly exceptional - smooth, true, consistent, and fast - felt like they were running 11-12. A real pleasure to play on them. Nice course - recommended!
Greens areated.
Greens were hairy. Was not told ahead of time greens had been recently areated and very unpredictable. Would have waited. Otherwise course was great as usual.
Hot and Humid
Greens rolled well but are starting to show some stress. Tees and fairways good and rough is thick but fair. Only issue was slow foursome on the back side that thought they were the only ones on the course and had the whole 9 backed up.
Great Course Great Value
Course was in excellent condition and fun to play. Considering they had heavy rains the day before the course was great. Beautiful clubhouse and nice restaurant
Very nice experience
This course was in very good condition. The fairways and greens were very good. I like the course layout too; some really nice challenges.
The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The grounds crew is doing an excellent job. Even during the protection phase, when the greens get a little longer, the greens are in really good shape. They aren’t laser fast, but they are true and smooth. Course is in great shape.
Best Kept Secret
Thanks to the golf now app I found this course for my group of four to play! We’ve played the Tangelwood courses and all the other courses in the area but never Salem Gleen. We were pleasantly surprised. What a great find and an awesome course to play. One we’d love to play again sometime! Impressed!
great course great time
Course is in great shape, greens are rolling true. Sand traps are white and the fairways are plush. Staff is friendly. This is a must-play course if you are in the area.
Worst experience I’ve ever had on a golf course
I had the worst experience I have ever had at a golf course. The Assistant Superintendent was extremely aggressive towards me and my playing partner. He was using profanity and acted as if he wanted to have a physical altercation. My playing partner had to call the pro shop and request someone meet us on the 3rd hole to intervene. We were told to stop by the pro shop at the turn and we would be refunded for the round of golf. Once we got to the pro shop, one of the gentlemen seemed to think we had provoked this guy and should share some of the blame for his actions. I can't even wrap my head around what we experienced today. We elected to cut our round short after 9 holes as we were still shaken from our encounter on the 3rd hole and simply did not feel welcome at this point. Upon leaving the pro shop to return the golf cart a gentleman met us outside and seemed to be sincere and his apology for the Assistant Superintendent's behavior was appreciated. I don't want to say I will never return to this course as the facility seemed nice, but this experience will stick with me for a long time, and I do not plan to return in the foreseeable future.
Doing better
Although this course used to be one of my favorites, It has gone through some trying times.
As of the date I last played this course, they are doing much better.
Still the hazards remain poorly marked if marked at all, ground under repair is not marked at all, some holes ( other than par 3's) remain cart path only, which is a problem for some of us with mobility limitations, sand traps had not been raked for a couple of days. We were not made aware of any these conditions upon checking in, I thought you should be made aware of these problem areas.
All in all, I think they are doing better, yet could be doing much better.
