Many temporary tees but other than that - a wonderful course

Best fringes & collars I've seen!

I don't understand why there is no cart path to the parking lot - major inconvenient oversight

The course is usually in great shape. This time though several of the tee boxes have been lost and have been moved way up. Hole #10 played 70 yards. Also, about a quarter of the 17th green is dead.

Generally the course is in better shape. Hopefully they will get these items fixed swiftly.

Staff: Outside, Pro Shop, and Snack Bar staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Carts: Nice clean electric carts with on-cart GPS.

Practice Areas: Nice long range, but you must always hit off of mats. There is a really nice, large putting green, but there is little area from which to chip and there is no practice bunker.

Conditions: Overall, the course conditions were really good. One green, the 17th was thin, but the rest of them showed little effect from the winter kill that has plagued so many other courses. The fairways and rough were also in fine shape. There were quite a few tee boxes that still need significant work done to them. Most of the white tee boxes were not being used; tees were either up or back. Hopefully a good weather summer will allow them to come back in.

Layout: Here's my biggest beef with Rocky River, and why even though it's the closest course to where I live, it's one that I play so infrequently. The layout does little to inspire or excite me. There is only one par 3 and one par 5 on the front. There is also little elevation change on the entire course. If you like hitting driver off of every hole, then you will enjoy this course. Most of the holes are straight away. The par 3's are all fairly short. You can take driver off of 13 of the 15 par 4's and 5's. Holes #4 and 14 are the exceptions. There aren't really any memorable holes, other than the large boulder in the middle of the 3rd fairway that doesn't really come into play. Water or native areas come into play on three holes.

Overall: I struggle to see why the course is rated so highly in the statewide rankings. Sure, for a municipal course, it's definitely one of the nicest you'll find, but you also pay a much higher fee to play it, one I don't know if it always justifies. I would still recommend this course, as it is generally always in good condition, but it is by no means my favorite.

This place is just as good as Ballantyne but for only 1/3 the price!

I was very impressed with the staff and the course.

The motor carts' GPS was awful:

We parked 3 carts right next to each other - one said 198 yards, another said 189 yards and the last said 178 yards.

I will go back but I'll ignore the GPS - next time I'll use The Force

Living in charlotte for 30+ years I was surprised to find this course out in Concord. Having just rained for several days, the greens were in excellent condition, little standing water anywhere but the bunkers were very dense. However, the charlotte motor speedway & drag strip were an eye sore on a handful of holes. All-in-all Rocky River is a great place to play to get the most bang for your buck! 4/5 stars

When the course Marshall comes around and mentions how bad the tee boxes are you know that’s not good. Greens are all in great shape but 17. Should not have to cost more than $55 for current shape. If you the highest rates in Charlotte then tee boxes should be in that bad of shape.

I felt duped when I showed up and noticed there was a large outside rock concert going on next to the course. This it was not noted when I went to book my tee time. It was a nice day so I went and played anyways. Outside staff were not attentive to who was going out. They told me to wait for the group and after 30 minutes past my tee time I realized they forgot about me so I went out to the tee box and eventually had some others join me. Greens were in great condition except for 17. Tee boxes are mostly gone and fairways were in fair condition. Overall it’s a solid course but definitely not worth full price.

I'm a 3 handicap with over 40 years of experience. I've played some of the best courses in the country. 5 years ago I played Rocky River for the first time and it was great. Nice course. Beautiful condition. However, that was 5 years ago. To call this course a dog track would be insulting to dog tracks. The only grass you'll find is on the greens. Otherwise, it's 18 holes of dirt and hardpan. Tee boxes look like batters boxes. They should pay you to play it. Will never waste my time nor money here again.

First time playing course. Chilly conditions and with our early arrival and a less-than-full tee sheet we were allowed out before our Hot Deal teetime. Very friendly cart/shop staff. Early April conditions were to be expected as not much is growing so tee boxes were a little sparse and sandy. Fairways were coming in and the greens were in great shape, fast and true. No on-course rest rooms (port-a-johns only). GPS in the carts is always a welcomed plus. Course is smartly routed thru swamps and wooded areas and each hole is by itself. No housing but one hole does have the Embassy Suites looming on the left side! Another hole has the drag track stands/parking area off in the distance. Truly a scenic and fun course and we would play it again anytime.

Wish they overseeded the fairways in winter but other than than that , you would be hard pressed to find anything wrong with this course. Beautiful layout and some of the best public greens you can play. The greens are perfect and fast. Great course for the money and worth 4.5 star rating now. Once the course green color comes back...5 stars!!! Staff is very polite and friendly. Pace of play was great. If you're ever in Charlotte NC...this is a must play track.

Had a 1:20p tee time, got there early around 12:40p

so the starter told me to go ahead since I was playing as 1. The GPS that the course had on the golf cart was a surprise. The last time I played there the gps wasn't there. Over all the course was in good shape. the green were smooth and steady.
