LakeShore - April 4 2015
Right now I would not pay full price to play this course. Maybe in a month. But because I played for 50% off, the round seemed fair. The course is still dormant, I would give it another 3-4 weeks for the fairways to grow in. The greens were aerated 2 weeks ago, they have mostly grown back, but there was still a lot of sand on the greens so you do not get a true roll for your putts. Because of the sand your putts also will not break as far as you think they should. On a positive notes, new tee markers, pins and hole inserts dress the course up a little. I think the practice range is still closed. I did not hit any but it still looked damaged to me. I enjoy the character of the course and will return when it grows in.
Terrible Course
This course is terrible. Greens are nice though. This is the one course that may be worse than Lochmere. If you can play anywhere else do.
Dog legs galore!
Short course with some challenging dog leg holes. Short and gettable. Greens running smooth and consistent.
pretty
lots of water as title suggests would be pretty in summer
Good fellowship
Played with my college roommate for over 30yrs, we had a good round. For the time of the year the course was in good condition. For the money not a bad course to play.
Great Place to Play Golf
Lakeshore is a short course which is well maintained and affordable. The greens and fairways are in excellent condition for this time of year. Several holes challenge golfers to hit shots that are precise.
Nice Course, Slow play
The course was in great shape and surprised me how nice it is for the cost. Unfortunately, there were some very slow foursomes who would not allow anyone to play through and no starter to help speed them up. Shouldn't take a pair of walkers 5 hours to golf 18 on a Friday afternoon.
good
course is very comfortable for a casual player. The staff was fair.
Play it again.
some greens had ben arriated..
Nice shape. fast play. I will play it more times.
Fantastic Experience!
My son and I played Lakeshore Saturday morning, and I was very impressed. The entire course was in terrific shape, and we were challenged on every hole. Also, it wasn't too crowded, and we we never felt rushed to play our round. The next time I am in Durham, this will be my course of choice!
Quick Round
Played the course in under 4 hours. Some challenging shots. Nice course for the money. Would play it again.
Not a great experience...
I, like others have stated, don't want to write a bad review. I do however think that people looking for enjoyable experience should be warned.
The good-
Course is not bad. VERY narrow in most spots, lots of houses in the middle of the course. Greens are OK, and fairways are not bad.
The bad-
Staff, for one, is not helpful and not welcoming. I feel like a criminal for asking to play! The course is not in good shape for the price. Other courses for the same price are way way better maintained. Everything feels dated and cheap.
If you are looking for a good course, do yourself a favor and drive up the road a few miles to Falls Village. Overall, not happy with what I paid for the multiple times I have been out there. I would not be going back if it was free.
Tough short course. Decent condition. Good value.
I used to play Lakeshore quite often when I lived closer to it but yesterday was the first time I had been back in a couple years. It's hard to judge the condition as the course received about 2-3" of rain over the 3 previous days so it was really wet. That being said, I think there's room for improvement on most of the tee boxes and in a few spots on the fairway. On the few greens which didn't have little mud piles on them, the ball rolled pretty true without bumping around. This course looks easy on paper but it is quite challenging. Very tight fairways on a lot of the holes and water or OB in play on the majority of them. All in all tho, it was a pretty good deal at $20 to ride 18. I would not recommend going on a day (or a few days) after the course got a lot of rain tho as it seems they have a little issue with drainage.
Nice course for average players
We had 2 young teenagers and it is a good course for them to learn to play, enough open space with some challenges for them to deal with.
We had a good time!
Fun course
Very short, but nice course layout. Plenty of fade friendly holes with soft receptive greens, however there had been plenty of rain a couple days prior. Overall fun round of golf.
fun ego boost
With wide fairways and forgiving greens, this course is great for someone relatively new to the game or for anyone who wants to get a quick game in. The staff is always more than friendly and the course is well kept. I enjoy playing here.
Good course
Good course for the money. The staff is friendly and pace of play is always pretty good. The fairway condition won't blow you away but for what you pay it's great. The only thing I would say is bad is the landscaping crews don't seem to care or practice any etiquette when mowing the fairways.
reachable par 4's
Best part about the course was the 3-4 short par 4's and 5's. Not a course I would join but like the risk/reward holes.
