Nice Course
This was a nice course. Varied elevation made some holes challenging, particularly the short par fours. Water in play on a few holes. Wide open look can be deceiving and some greens were small so your approach had to be accurate.
Great value
Great value for the money. My partner and I paired with a regular who knew the course and greens. He was a big help. Pace of play was great.
Pleasant Suprise
At first sight I thought it would be a rabbit patch, even the putting green was not useable. The first hole slopped toward the lake, was narrow and rough but came up to a beautiful green. The rest of the course was great with well managed fairways. Have to be careful of hidden creeks over hills, but had a fun round.
Very forgiving senior tees helped us old guys. A little short for big hitter.
Nice course
Nice challenging course. I'm going back ASAP! The greens were nearly perfect.
Fast play, average course
Finished 18 holes in under 3 hours. Course has a few interesting holes but most are very similar. Greens were in great shape and fairways were decent. Would play again but could get old after playing several times. Worth a try.
Good Course
Great staff! Fun course. Good for seniors. Recommend for anyone.
Slow greens
The driving range was pretty cool hitting into the lake. Greens are toooooo slow!!
And they thought it was HOT at the US Open... Ha!
I arrived at Lakeshore early for a 12:05 tee time and was whisked onto the course and advised to watch out for the heat and keep hydrated. Starting temp was 100 degrees.
Amazingly the course was in fantastic condition. This was during our tenth day in a row of 95 plus degree weather. Greens were accepting of high shots and held when I struck the ball properly. Fairways were moderate and offed playable lies.
Cool breezes greeted me in the numerous valleys throughout the course, and my round of 82... Well better than I expected. Hat's of to the facilities guy's working to keep things GREEN and the rest of the staff. Can't wait to go back.... When it's cooler. Thank you.
Better courses out there
Too many trees that hang over tee shot flight areas - need to trim back hanging branches over fairways. No food selection or grill. Greens are consistent but shaggy and slow. Pace of play not good at all. Everything gets backed up with groups of 4 walkers at a time going off.
Great value
Good course. Great value. Less expensive than other course in area.
Fun course...but...
Lakeshore is a fun course that is convenient to most people in the Durham/West Raleigh area. The course provides a decent challenge with some interesting hole layouts. The major drawback for this course is the condition of the overall course. The greens are in good shape but getting there is the trick. The fairways are rock hard and bare dirt in most spots. There is little distinction between the rough and the fairways. It has been a little dry lately but the fact that there is a massive pond in the middle of the course you would expect the course to be better watered than it is. Miss the fairway on this course and you end up in one of the several creeks, deep woods or other fairways. Because the course is so dry and hard the ball runs a long way, it also takes crazy bounces that turn good shots into difficult follow ups or even in losing a ball or two. The cart paths are a bumpy ride and you will need to hang on and clinch your teeth as to not jar out any fillings. The tee boxes were in rough condition, some so hard you couldn't get a tee in the ground, while others had no grass at all on them. The greens were in good condition which is odd considering the rest of the course. I would rate this course much higher if it resembled the pictures they have for it. I have played this course several times and have never seen it in that good of condition. It is a shame too because the staff here is great and the price can't be beat. The location is excellent but the course needs work! I enjoyed the round but know we all could have shot better provided we weren't hitting from hard packed dirt most of the time.
pleasant surprise
Used to play this course a ton about 6-7 years ago since I lived so close to it but it got in pretty bad shape and the cost just wasn't worth it when I could pay less or the same for much better facility. So it has been a few years since I played here but I figured for $19 on a Friday afternoon I would give it another shot. Really glad I did. It's not a hard course but you also can't just grab driver and overpower it. Some target golf is thrown in too. Fairways were ok, little spotty here and there and some hard pan in places but the greens were fantastic. Like I said I've played this course probably 50+ times over the last decade and the greens are in the best shape ever. Still on the slow side but rolled perfectly (Hopefully they can maintain then through the summer league) so I would play here again. Did get slowed up on holes 12-18 with 2 twosomes and a single in front of me but I wasn't in a hurry and still finished in under 3 hours.
Golf
Nice day for golf and good pace of play at course.
No fairways...
Course is right next to my house which is the only reason I play here. The fairways were borderline nonexistent. Just dead everywhere. Back 9 is much better than front but neither are good. Greens were actually in pretty good shape but very long, slow, with zero break. Tee boxes are also ridiculously bad. If you're a serious golfer, this is not the spot for you. If you are just trying to play golf, this will kind of do, maybe.... It's a shame someone doesn't invest in this course as it could be really good. INSTALL SPRINKLERS PLEASE!
greens are in excellent shape.
The greens are in great condition right now, which makes or breaks the value in playing this course. Otherwise it's a short and boring track that I wouldn't consider playing if it wasn't one of only a few cheaper options close to Raleigh.
Well Kept and Fun
The course is short, and the greens were well kept.. The fairways were somewhat muddy so the course had cart path restriction for carts. It was pretty gusty that day so I had to hit lower trajectory balls. Overall I really enjoyed the course. It only took 3 hours to play, and that was really a bonus.
Water water water
raleigh has been hit with 6 inches of rain so it not fair to be harsh towards the course.
Just too much water.
And with a few holes left the heavens opened up again.
We chose the course as it is very close to the Airport and we wanted to play a course just after we landed and waited for our golf buddies on our way to our junket.
The course is perfect for a warm up course.
Great course to build Confidemce
Hit it straight and go for the greens. A lot of fun for you and your pals.
id golf again
Course in pretty good shape. Small greens in really good shape.
Go somewhere else
Don't waste your time or your money. The greens are horrible and the course is in bad shape. I would rather drive further and pay more than play this course that's only 10 minutes down the road.
