Best Kept Secret in the Triangle
I play here often with my sons and we all LOVE this course. It has never taken longer than 3 hours 40 minutes to finish playing. The greens are in excellent shape and present some challenging nuances that can vex you at times, but are always fair. As we played on Friday, 8-1-14, my son and I discussed that of the the eight or so courses we play in the area, no fewer than five of the holes on this course would be on our 18 hole Triangle All Star List. I can't wait to play again!
Best Public Track in Durhan
Good greens better than average fairways fast pace if play. Reasonable layout
Paid <$20
Priceless
Getting Better
Course was in excellent shape and not crowded. The course has always had nice greens and today the rest of facility was in great shape.
Good course, great price
This is a fun, short course with some elevation changes and good greens. You will hit a variety of clubs off the tee, and have the opportunity to shape shots both ways. Staff could be friendlier, but for $18, I can't really complain too much.
Average course all around.
Average course all around. This is not a criticism. Some bare spots in and at edges of the fairways but overall in reasonable condition.
Speedy Play
Great afternoon at Willowhaven - course in great shape - pace if play was fast - will deffinatly come back
Needs work
This is a really fun course but the condition was really dry and hard for this early in the summer. The tee boxes need to be patched, sodded and or repaired. They are fairly level but need grass. Fairways were really bare in spots and course edges have many rocks to watch for.
nice course
I would tell my friends to wait a couple of weeks to play this course, They had just plugged the greens and the putting surface was bad. the rest of the course is in good shape.
Good Course but Could be tter
Its a fun course, and the greens were really good, fairly fast, but the fairways and tee boxes need some work. For some reason, grass isnt really growing out there.
Decent track
I had been looking forward to playing here for a while and finally got the opportunity. The layout is tight on the front - actually cramped on several holes. Conditions of the course were just okay. Not sure where some other reviewers got the greens were "FAST" or "slick" but they were not quick at all when I played. Enjoyed the back side. Course is very short.
Well maintained course
This is not a long course tee-green but the greens are slick and challenging. We were allowed to play ahead of our tee time to get ahead of their 19th hole group. So our pace of play was great.
Lots of doglegs
FAST greens with lots of slope on the greens. Very challenging greens. Lots of doglegs, but a fun course. Guy running the desk in the pro shop needs to be trained on customer service.
Great! but need to correct the direction
It was my second time for the course. Overall course condition and facilities were great. However, I late for tee time because of wrong direction of GolfNow information. Besides that, I enjoyed that day pretty much.
Nice course
Good course. Greens were a little choppy which made putting tough.
good course
Very straight forward course. Winter brown but the greens were excellent. Can't wait to play it green!
This course has some challenges but not difficult. I play it often its always a joy
Great course great price especially with the golf now discount
Playable
I played Umstead Pines and it was okay. I wasn't a big fan of the layout of the course for me personally, too many lay up holes for my liking. I would say the condition of the fairways and tee boxes were maintained, nothing negative to say about them. The best part about the course was definitely the greens. They were old-styles sloped greens with shaved fringes for run off. They had good speed to them as well. I would say the person in the clubhouse wasn't overly friendly, but was okay. All in all, not my favorite course but I would play there again and recommend it to each person to make their own determination.
The course is always in good shape and is fun to play.
Umstead Pines is a good old fashion golf course whose fairways are always full and the greens in very good condition. There are a couple of holes that are quite challenging but most are playable, even for the high handicapper.
