Nice friendly course. No long but be prepared for Lots of trees and water.
Course is in great shape
I have been playing The Pines for the last few years. Like stated before in past reviews the YMCA of Hampton Roads Va has been running the course and they have done a great job.
The recent wet weather we had the last week or so has been great for the entire course.
Not to mention they have been able to keep up with the demands of a course through the Pandemic we have been experiencing. Everyone from the Pro Shop to the Grounds Crew has done an amazing job. Can't say enough.
Tough conditions
Considering the amount of rain we have had, the course wasn't as bad as it could have been. The greens were in very decent condition. There were some really wet and muddy spots and my plugged on multiple shots. All in all a tough day on the links is still better than a great day at work.
Great band for your buck
Course is in great shape, best bang for your buck by far. It is challenging but not frustratingly difficult. I would definitely recommend to friends and will continue to come back as much as possible. Well worth the drive from Chesapeake for me!
Not bad for the price
The carts are in great shape. Tee boxes were OK. Fairways are brown for the winter but not in too bad of shape. Greens needed a bit more TLC. They were fast but there were a few bad spots here and there. Also, it would be really nice if folks would repair their divots and not throw their cigarette buts in the sand traps. All in all I would recommend this course.
Nice course
Good local course, greens are fast and in places need some attention(and are getting it). Would recommend, I enjoy it every time.
Super Course
Course was in excellent condition today. With the exception of a few bad spots on maybe 2 or 3 greens, they were in super shape. Putts rolled true with no bouncing balls along the way. The fairways were pretty good, but a few had some worn down areas where the lies were really tight, but not a problem.
My brother and I had an 11 a.m. tee time and wanted to get lunch at the course after as they have an excellent menu and very nice staff. Unfortunately, the restaurant is open from only 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the weekdays. We ended up eating at Wendy's down the road.

Great course challenges all skill well maintained staff is friendly
Very good course, it forces your game to get better
Decent course for the money
The course is laid out nicely, making you plan your approaches. This area of NC has been dry for weeks, so the fairways were a bit hard and crunchy. Some of the greens were still under repair but most were good. I had early tee times so the course was not yet crowded and I went right out. The staff were very friendly.
Lost greens
Ok, so it was a sloppy day at The Pines but that is what winter golf is in this part of the country. However, The Pines have always had beautiful, excellently manicured greens but not today! Every single green had major damage and it did not appear as though they were addressing the issue. Really sad because this used to be a treat of a course to go play from Great Bridge.
Great Course
Course was in great shape. Bunkers full and edged. Green’s in good shape as well. Especially with heat index’s over 100
