Pines
Course coming along nicely! Aerated greens about a month ago and they are looking good! Only complaint was the greens were really slow but they watering the whole course! Challenging and enjoyable course to play! JC
It's a shame.
It's a shame what has happened to this course since the change of ownership. I've played here for years both casually and in tournaments. This course used to be one of the nicest maintained places you could play in Northeast North Carolina. Not sure I'll be going back unless some major changes are made in the funds spent to keep up the maintenance. I feel bad for the members who have been there for years, they are friendly and lots of fun to play with. They don't deserve their little piece of heaven to be let go like this!
Great all around course
Awesome course for all levels of golfers. Very well maintained and a very friendly staff! Be careful as the layout can get a little confusing at certain holes in terms of tee box placement. Five stars though for maintenance of course, friendly staff, and value
Good layout
Have played course several times in the past 5 years! It is a good track that just happened to be wet when I played hence the low rating for conditions. This course is usually in good condition with small bent grass greens that are in great shape! It’s definitely worth your time to play here!
Course review
This course was better than average. It was challenging due to the layout and elevated greens. A couple of the greens had some bare spots but it's hard to maintain this time of the year. Overall this course was nice and I will definitely play it again.
Enjoying the Pines
With a wide-open course ahead of me, and no one chasing me, I enjoyed this round immensely. The Pines is a challenging layout that is mostly open on the front 9, and more wooded and tighter on the back 9. The course was in fantastic shape and the greens were quick and true. The Pines is what could be called "flat", terrain-wise, but here, that can be a problem. With quite a few water hazards, the flatness helps keep those ponds hidden from view, so it is wise to give the hole a real good look before playing your shot, because there is danger lurking on what at first appears to be a trouble-free track.
Great course
Great course for the cost. Pretty wide open but with some challenging holes. The course is still well maintained even though you are getting into winter golf. I would highly recommend this course anyone anytime of the year. The course is right up there with the higher price outer banks courses
Might would play this course again but wouldn't pay anymore than the price we played for
Gem across the border
I enjoyed the course ,layout and greens .Staff extremely friendly .Course is in great shape .Greens had a few problems but didn't interfere with play.
Course in great shape
The course was in great condition greens were in great shape. The only problem we had was starting the back 9 there was a five some in front of us who would not wave is thru and were very rude. We skipped a hole so we could keep up a good pace. Definitely no golf etiquette that day.
Great morning of golf
My wife and I booked a Hot Deal at The Pines for an 8:36am tee off. Everyone we met was extremely friendly and happy to answer any questions we had. The course was in very good condition and very open. This played well into my slice which sometimes shows it ugly head.
We were able to tee off before the regulars so our round only took us 3 hours 45 minutes. Never played up on another group which we had to wait for.
Fairways were lush and most greens were in great shape. Some greens had some sand but the pins were placed in areas of grass. Perhaps they had recently been aerated.
We would definitely play again if we were staying in the area.
Great Day in Elizabeth City
The sky was a gorgeous Carolina blue, the temperature was around 74 and occasionally a light breeze. The fairways were in great shape. I have a habit of playing "winter rules" just about year round, and out of habit almost always roll my ball around looking for a perfect lie. At The Pines, I hardly ever needed to do that. Yes, it's not "by the book", but it was just a casual round with my brother. The greens has a top dressing of sand on them, but it must have been done a few days earlier because the sand was almost gone on some areas of the greens. It didn't seem to affect the putts at all. Some of the best greens around. It is definitely worth the 40-45 minute drive from Virginia Beach.
Challenging holes
This course is longer than most and has lots of water to avoid. It was a great value for the money. My only problem is several of the greens are not in good shape and need a lot of work.
Course conditions
I realize the course is being sold and until extensive work is done to the greens, I wouldn't recommend this course for play.
Worth the Drive
The Pines proved to be worth the drive up from Duck. The staff was very friendly and the course was challenging for me and easy enough for others in my party to enjoy themselves. The fairways were wide and well maintained. The only issue were the greens on several of the holes. A few of them were unputtable but but that didn't stop us from enjoying the day. We could not find anything within 20 miles of Duck that was under $50-60. So the $16 fee was ideal and it only took about 45-50 minutes to get there. We will come back again next year.
it was ok
The staff was not really friendly with me. The course lay out was poor.
Shotmaker's Course
Not particularly long, but there are some tricky holes that will make you think. The greens were way slower than I thought they were and should have been, but maybe they weren't able to cut them because of all the rain proceeding my round… Not sure. Definitely a good value for what I paid though.
