Nice course but be careful how much you pay
The course itself is a really enjoyable challenge. The kind of course that tricks you into thinking it's easier than it really is when you look at the yardages of each hole, but there's plenty of trees and danger areas to keep you in check. This also makes it more enjoyable for shorter hitters or higher handicaps. The layout is a little 'samey' front 9, just going back and forth, but the back 9 shows a lot more variation. A couple of the front 9 holes run alongside the airport runway, so you get a great view of the planes taking off and landing. It was a little disappointing though that they lacked etiquette, with several planes taking off whilst I was stood over a putt...
The course was in lovely condition. Greens rolled true, fairways were well kept, but can't comment on the bunkers as thankfully I didn't visit any. Tee boxes could've done with being cut a touch shorter, but this seems to be common with most courses these days.
Be warned though, we played on a Sunday afternoon and paid £33 through GolfNow, but our tee time only cost £20 booking direct. I understand that it's common for courses to inflate GolfNow prices, but a 65% increase is excessive. £20 is fantastic value for money for this course, but £33 is a little tough to swallow. Certainly wouldn't pay any more to play it.
Lovely course
Lovely course in great condition. Challenging in places making you think about your shots. Compliments to the green keepers.
VERY POOR SERVICE - Won’t admit to their mistake
We booked to play on Friday (paying £27.99) but on Thursday afternoon received an email saying they couldn’t accommodate us. When I phoned to speak to them, first I was told it was because it was members only (why then still allow visitors to book?). Then when I pointed out that the same tee time we had booked was still showing as available for visitors to book on their website, they told me I could have the tee time (what happened to it being members only?) but that it would now cost £40.
- firstly, if I had been the one to cancel the contract with such short notice I would have lost my money, so why are they able to cancel just because they want more money?
- secondly, I have played this course several times and it is NOT worth £40 a round (there are much better courses in the area). It’s an ok course, if you can get it for around £25, but the service is terrible.
First Time Round
Really enjoyed my first experience at Tall Pines. For the time of year the course was still in immaculate condition with good pace to the greens. Definatly will be back, some great views on certain holes and if you're a plane fan you may also get lucky seeing some land and take off.
Windy challenge
On high ground by Bristol airport means it is windy, making it a challenge for any golfer (especially a novice like me), however it was very enjoyable and fairly varied. Lots of dog leg holes, but nothing that demoralised you before you hit a tee shot. Would play again.
Tall Pines on a windy day, hard to play
Course itself and facilities were very good, but some of locals playing on the course were too loud/rowdy for playing on a course, get back to the bar/driving range me thinks!
Recommend you play this course on a less windy day as some tough rough and trees to navigate if you stray off the fairways.
A bit pricy at 35 quid too.
