Last hole, a wicked par 4 Photo submitted by sandzman on 06/21/2014
never took putter out of bag
need to mow grass, greens didn't have much grass mostly sand
Not as good as a well groomed goat ranch
Course was not marked from the main road. Fairways were rough and lots of weird grass. Sand traps were growing grass and weeds. Greens were dry dirt, spots of crab grass no putting surface. Absolutely the worst course I have ever paid to play on !!!!!
Worst golf course i have ever seen much less played.
I have seen golf courses that are shut down that are in better condition. I dont believe they own a lawn mower, or weedeater. Also there is more grass in the bunkers than there are on the green. You have a much better chance of getting snakebitten in the fairways than finding your ball, Overall 0 stars
Bay Dunes
I was dissapointed with the course conditions. The fairways were poor, the tee boxes were poor and the greens were the worst i have every encountered. After the first few holes, I did not bother to putt. I liked the course layout and there were a few challenging holes, but I would not recommend the course until they get their course condtions back up to par.
Could be great, except
This course could be a great gem away from PCB, but they MUST do some serious maintenance to fix it. Range-practice area is a mess. Tee boxes were beaten up, uneven, and needed to be mowed. Fairways/rough were the same grass height. Bunkers (holes with "sand" but mostly grass) were evident, just no rakes. Greens in terrible shape (discolored, worn spots, weeds, fuzzy and needed to be cut). NO WATER on course, so they give you a bottle in the clubhouse.
Layout is actually decent, links-style with some good carries and risk/reward options. Played in windy conditions, so it was a decent challenge.
PLEASE, close for a year, get this thing back to health, then open back up. It has some potential to be a good course, but will take some time and $$ to bring back to life.
Worst golf course ever
More grass in the sand traps than on the green
AVOID AT ALL COST
30 years of GOLF and several years of playing GOLF in Florida this is the worst. We were told a couple of the greens were RUFF. The fairways haven't been cut in months, the greens have more DEAD spots than grass, and the bunkers have water and grass instead of sand. The "DEAL" was 2 for $50. Play one of the putt-putt courses and save your MONEY.
Great layout/needs care
The greens are bad with weed bumps. The traps have grass in them and need raking and sand. Everything else is fantastic. Very good layout, and challenging. If they fix the greens and bunkers I would rate it 5. I probably will try it again on my next visit to Panama city.
Rough course
We just wanted a place for a practice round, but didn't even get that. The greens are the worst I have played in years. The fairways and rough are a mixture of weed and grasses which are kept mowed. As long as you improved your lie it was OK.
I will not be back.
Perfect Comfort Course
This course has its pro's and con's, but if you are looking for a rather inexpensive golf experience Bay Dunes is the place for you. This is not a immaculate/flawless golf course, but if you are looking for a fun day with a good blend of simple and challenging holes I would HIGHLY recommend.
After being closed down and sold a few times over the last 5-10 years, the most recent owner has made a LOT of improvements over the last year of ownership. There is still work that needs to be done, but a lot of the negative reviews on this course don't take into consideration that the repairs needed aren't an overnight thing. If you want flawless greens and beautiful beach sand bunkers, I would go elsewhere because you wont find that for 20-30 dollars a person anywhere near this city.
Pro's:
This course has a good mixture of challenging dog legs, well placed hazards, and a large water feature that dominates the majority of the back 9.
The front 9 is a good warm-up to help you get loosened up and find your range.
Every staff member I've met has been very helpful and personable/reasonable.
Not a busy course, you can normally play at any speed without interference from other players.
Cons:
Greens are in rough shape, a lot of work has been put into the fairways, but the greens still need a good amount of repairs, a lot of sandy patches and uneven grass.
Bunkers; most of the bunkers are either packed down firm sand or growing grass. talking to the staff the Owners are planning on refilling and bringing in fresh sand to get the bunkers back where they should be, right now they don't even have rakes near the bunkers.
I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a good place to hone their skills, at an inexpensive rate.
Never again
The course was in very poor condition. The greens were so bad we played 2 putt greens for the whole round. It appears that there was no maintenance being done on any part of the course especially the greens and sand traps.
The round was not even worth the reduced rate of $10.
If they took care of it.
The course really was fun to play. It's in terrible condition, barely taken care of. Apparently, it's under new management so hopefully it won't be too long before it's in better shape.
Bay Dunes
This is the absolute worst golf course we have ever played! No grass anywhere, fairways were so bad you had to look for a green weed to roll your ball on. There was no grass on the greens. They are so bad that you cannot putt, aeriated greens roll better. Sand traps had weeds growing in them and the cart paths are pieces of busted blacktop. Totally unfair for anyone to charge someone to play this so called golf course
would be interesting when it dries out.
Course was waterlogged so only back nine open. Layout good but it needs to dry out. Would play again.
Great peace of property
Someone should build a golf course here, been playing for 40 years and this is the worst course I have ever played, no grass on greens just mowed weeds, bunkers have more grass in them than the greens have, nothing but weeds all over the course. What a shame, like I said nice peace of property.
Much Improved in a very Short Time
I have played this course 4 or 5 times over the past 4 months and have seen a steady transformation from a facility that has seen better days to an up and coming course with tremendous potential to be as good as any in the area.
There are several challenging holes with plenty of water and also a few others that have decent elevation changes. The greens are a work in progress but are 50% better than they were months ago.
The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the new owners are committed to making this property a course that we can all be proud to support and play.
Get out and support this facility which is only one of two public courses in town. Green Fees are the best in town....right now they are running 2 for $40 with a cart which is an excellent value compared to fees on other local courses.
Getting better
From what I understand, the course is under new management (or relatively new). It's improving each time that I play. The fairways were pretty good. The bunkers (green side and fairway) needs some love. The green were a little hard but not too bad. The staff is always great and the layout of the course is great! If you're lucky, you'll get the added bonus of seeing the RC planes that are being flown a little ways from the course. It was definitely entertaining. I paid $20 for the round so I'm definitely happy. Look for the specials. The full price is just a little too much for the quality of the course. They are getting there though.
worth a visit
I'd played the course last Winter and it was not a place to recommend. This time around it was worth the trip. The course is 100% in better shape. The green were seeded as the fairways and tee box. If the green fill up they should be very good. The fairways have grass to play from and in due time could be quite playable. I was impress with the changes.
New Life
After reading a lot of reviews for this course I wasn't sure what to expect: Terrible greens, 6" fairways, couldn't find my ball no matter where I hit it lol. I thought for $14 to ride 18 I really couldn't go wrong. The staff was very nice. The course is a work in progress. I was talking to a local and the new owner had purchased the course in April, and according to the local has made the course 10x's better than it was. The course has a very nice layout and he fairways were in very good shape. The greens need some tlc, but I was told he was going to over seed them the following weekend. I recommend this course to anyone who loves the game of golf.
Thank You for playing at Bay Dunes. As we continue our efforts to improve this course, we appreciate your review. Since your visit, all of our greens have been reseeded and top dressed providing a much more uniform surface. We still are awaiting the property owners (Bay County) to repair drainage enabling us to tie in drains in bunkers.
We hope you are able play here again!
I entirely agree. We used to love this course and the layout of this course makes it much more interesting to play than the major courses in Panama City but it has been neglected to the point where it needs to be closed for a year or so and upgraded. Makes a nice walk at present.
