The fourth 18-hole golf course to open at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort will be the Old Macdonald course, inspired by the great holes of legendary architect C.B. Macdonald, who built National Golf Links near Boston.

When Macdonald studied in St. Andrews, he compiled a list of some of the best holes in golf, and would use these templates to design his own golf holes in America. Old Macdonald architects Tom Doak and Jim Urbina followed this philosophy and found some of Macdonald's favorite holes here, including four similar holes from the Old Course in St. Andrews. While Old Macdonald has less ocean frontage than Pacific Dunes and Bandon Dunes, there are some spots, like the seventh green, that overlook the ocean.

Upon construction, the golf course was seeded in two phases, and preview play on a 10-hole loop is being offered on Old Macdonald until it fully opens in the summer of 2010. During this preview play, caddies are required.
