Bay Course at Costa Navarino is the newest golf course in Greece
PYLOS, Greece -- The newest of just a handful of golf courses in Greece is the Bay Course at Costa Navarino.
Set on the country's southwest coast, the Bay Course opened in 2011 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The site sits on rolling coastal hills, littered with olive trees and other native vegetation and also has few flat spots, though is still a walkable routing (the course currently plays out of a temporary clubhouse from a different point of the course than was originally planned for the opening hole, and thus the routing of the course is not officially in play yet).
The highlight of the course is the handful of bayside holes that bring the calm waters and beach into play, though sea views are in play throughout the round here.
A Troon Golf-managed facility, the Bay Course is the second to come to Costa Navarino, which also debuted the Dunes Course in 2010. Playing out of separate clubhouse, the course is a Bernhard Langer and European Golf Design collaboration.
In addition to 36 holes of golf, Costa Navarino features two Starwood-brand hotels, The Romanos, which will open in the summer of 2012 (A Luxury Collection Resort) and Westin. The two side-by-side properties share a common area that features a mix of shops and restaurants.
