Cahoon Plantation Golf Club in Chesapeake, Va. remains among the top golf courses in the Tidewater area
CHESAPEAKE, Va. -- On the south side of I-64 in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, Cahoon Plantation Golf Club has brought upscale golf to an area that previously had none.
The facility opened in 1999 with grand ambition -- 27 regulation holes and a par-three 18. After realizing that so many holes was unsustainable for the area -- according to Director of Golf Dan Shea -- Cahoon Plantation was downsized and parceled out for housing. But the 18 holes that remain rank Cahoon among the top golf courses in the Tidewater area, and it is certainly one of the most unique.
With extensive mounding and intricate bunkering, faux elevation change, plateaued greens, Scottish accents, and fine bentgrass conditions rarely found this far south, Cahoon Plantation Golf Club makes a rare impression in an area full of low-lying courses.
