Clear Creek Tahoe golf course: A Coore & Crenshaw beauty near Carson City in Nevada's High Sierras

CARSON CITY, Nev. -- Golfers will appreciate the beauty and solitude of the gallery at Clear Creek Tahoe -- thousands of Jeffrey, Sugar and Ponderosa pines. These majestic evergreens line the fairways of a pure Coore & Crenshaw design 45 minutes south of Reno, Nevada.

Architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw have delivered an alpine golf course that can be walked. High points of the subtly rolling land alternate between tees and greens, mixing in uphill climbs with downhill thrills. Tee shots from the elevated third tee take their time before falling to the fairway far below.

Rough edging give the bunkers and waste areas a natural look. A rock outcropping guards the corner of the dogleg at no. 9, a sweeping par 4. The greens of two par 3s -- the 148-yard 17th and 200-yard fourth holes -- roll wild and wavy like the surrounding mountains. Good luck making par.

Clear Creek Tahoe, which opened its golf course in 2009, is gearing up for growth mode. The private club will break ground on a new clubhouse this summer and soon begin offering real estate on its 1,576 acres, featuring 268 estate lots and 98 more for mountain cottages.

Members will have access to a world-class practice facility and Twin Pines, a former lodge on the shores of Lake Tahoe that serves as a summer getaway for lake lovers and a base for skiers at Heavenly in winter. A state-of-the-art wellness and spa component will be built with an ongoing commitment to conservation and sustainability.
