Florida's TPC Tampa Bay: One of the area's best upscale destination courses

LUTZ, Fla. -- Located just north of Tampa, TPC Tampa Bay is widely considered one of the top public-access courses in this popular destination area.

The course, now owned and operated by Heritage Golf Group (opened in 1991 and designed by architect Bobby Weed), has hosted 21 PGA Tour Champions tournaments.

It's a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, and despite being the centerpiece of a residential community, the golf course features lots of wetlands and native areas throughout.

From the championship tees, TPC Tampa Bay plays 6,898 yards, but there are five total sets. There aren't too many forced carries, and while there is plenty of water and bunkers, it isn't too penal for seniors and higher handicaps. The forward set of five tees plays just under 5,000 yards.

While it's a good pick for visitors and snowbirds, the facility does offer a lot of specials and events aimed at locals, such as junior rates, nine-hole deals, after-work Friday fun days, and more. There is no hotel on site, but there are stay-and-play specials with the Don Cesar Loews St. Pete Beach property.

As you'd expect from a TPC facility, courses conditions are maintained at a high level, and there is an expansive practice facility. The clubhouse also has a full pro shop and restaurant.
