Grip it and rip it at Eagle's Pointe Golf Club in Bluffton, South Carolina

BLUFFTON, S.C. -- Marshes, ponds and wetland dictate how golfers attack most Lowcountry courses. Eagle's Pointe Golf Club has all that, but most of the watery trouble sits forgivingly out of the way.

Don't call Eagle's Pointe "easy." Still, it's fair to characterize this Davis Love III design from 1998 among the most player-friendly in the Hilton Head area.

Swinging away, even with a wild driver, plays all day on its wide fairways. PGA General Manager Brent Carlson said the 6,780-yard course perfectly suits the game of its architect.

"You can bomb it off the tee," Carlson said. "That's what I think of [long drives] when I think of him."

Eagle's Pointe serves as the perfect complement to its sister course, Crescent Pointe Golf Club, an Arnold Palmer design just down the road that is more demanding and target-oriented.

"I feel comfortable playing here,” said Peter Brewer of Missouri. "For better players, there is enough challenge to make it interesting."

Eagle's Pointe's collection of par 3s is strong, varying in yardage and looks. The sixth hole remains the best par 4 strategically, even though it's just 329 yards from the tips. A grove of trees and a pond sit along the right side, pinching the fairway.
