Lake Oconee drives the golf resort lifestyle at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Georgia

GREENSBORO, Ga. -- The allure of Lake Oconee makes Reynolds Plantation tick. The water serves as the lifeblood of this resort and golf community halfway between Atlanta and Augusta in so many ways.

The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation wouldn't feel so magical if the back lawn didn't slant toward its infinity pool and terrace overlooking the shore. Great Waters wouldn't be one of the best courses ever designed by Jack Nicklaus without its nine waterfront holes. The National , The Landing , The Plantation and the Oconee Course s all skirt the lake as well for their most scenic and memorable moments.

Resort guests and homeowners who cherish lake living can go boating, waterskiing, kayaking, fishing, paddle boarding, swimming and more. Since purchasing the golf community in 2012, new owner MetLife has poured millions into Reynolds Plantation to ensure its investment complements the natural beauty of the outdoors. All 251 rooms at the Ritz have been refreshed, and Georgia's Bistro restaurant has been redecorated.

Almost every course has been renovated, whether it's new greens, refurbished bunkers, upgraded bathrooms and comfort stations or better drainage. The Sandy Creek Barn, a completely restored wood-beam structure dating to the 1820s, was transported all the way from Pennsylvania to serve as a unique venue for special events and gatherings. Construction on a new clubhouse at The National will begin this year.

Life, already good, just keeps getting better along Georgia's second-largest lake.
