Palmer Coolum Golf Club offers up a Robert Trent Jones Jr. challenge on Australia's Sunshine Coast

The Palmer Coolum Golf Club is located in Queensland on Australia's Sunshine Coast, just north of Brisbane. This area is much more laid back and sparsely populated compared to the Gold Coast, another vacation destination in Queensland that is about two hours south by car.

The Palmer Coolum is a sprawling resort that has mostly villa-style accommodations set along some parts of the golf course and elsewhere on the property. There is also a private beach club, which can be reached by a bike and walking path, and a Village Square, where most of the dining options for the resort are located.

The Coolum golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and plays host to the Australian PGA Championship. The course winds through dense forest and wetlands and plays 6,137 meters. There are numerous standout holes, especially on the scenic back nine, including a nice stretch between No. 11 and No. 13. The 18th hole is a fitting end for a tournament: a long par 4 with water down the entire left side. The club features pro-worthy facilities, including a flood-lit driving range and numerous practice greens, plus a large clubhouse.
