Pennard Golf Club near Swansea, Wales

Located about eight miles from Swansea in south Wales, Pennard Golf Club is one of the more unique golf links in Britain. The golf course opened in 1896 but has been altered several times, including by James Braid. You'll notice Braid's signature bunkering on a lot of the holes, but the views steal the show here. Set about 200 feet above the sea on the Gower Peninsula, the golf course is nicknamed "The Links in the Sky" -- and with good reason. Views are spectacular, but its location also yields some heavy winds and tumbling, firm turf. The back nine plays closer to the sea, and there are back-to-back par 5s, the 16th and 17th, that play closest to the cliffs.

Another unique aspect to Pennard Golf Club is that the golf course is located on common land, and farmers often let their livestock onto the course, so it's not uncommon to see cows and horses roaming the fairways, as well as a steady stream of locals with their dogs.
