LONG NECK, Del. -- About 45 minutes from Ocean City, Md., Baywood Greens is the kind of golf course that garners a lot of discussion from those who play it.
First of all, a large portion of the club's sizable maintenance budget is dedicated to horticulture and the thousands of flowers found throughout the course. On top of that, course conditions are superb. And thirdly, the course, designed by Ault, Clark & Associates, is a tale of two nines, highlighted by holes that have an island fairway, island green and island tee box.
Opened in 1998, the par-72 course plays almost 7,000 yards from the tips. The front nine is carved through the trees, while the back nine has water on eight of nine holes. Greens can be rather quick, so staying below the hole is a good strategy. The course is also very playable with the forward tees, at 3,539 yards, suitable for young juniors and weaker players.
