Rugged Springwood Course brings the challenge at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York

YORK, Pa. -- Springwood Golf Course is one of two courses that are part of Heritage Hills Golf Resort.

The Heritage Hills Course has a classic design for players of all skill levels while the rugged Springwood Golf Course offers more of a challenge. Springwood sprawls across hilly Pennsylvania countryside with dramatic elevation changes.

Although the Springwood Course is seemingly short at just more than 6,400 yards from the back tees, it plays much longer. Risk-reward opportunities are everywhere, making it a true shotmaker's course. Players will have to contend with high rough, mounding, and a liberal smattering of bunkers along the greens and fairways. The shorter par 4s -- the fourth, sixth and seventh holes specifically -- are particularly tough with undulating greens framed by a variety of hazards.

Water doesn't have a prominent role but it does come into play on a few holes, most notably on Springwood's par-3 11th, which requires a tricky forced carry over wetlands to a narrow landing area.
