Saunton Golf Club in southwest England
Located in southwest England, Saunton Golf Club is one of the country's premier multi-links clubs, thanks to its championship East and West golf courses.
Saunton was officially founded in 1897, and the original East course went through a series of redesigns and upgrades in the coming decades. Its most elaborate came at the hands of Herbert Fowler.
The West was added in 1935, but both golf courses were closed and damaged during World War II and didn't open until 1952. Though both layouts are championship quality, they vary in playing style. The East is the longer of the two and is generally used for the club's top competitions, while the West is shorter and requires more placement than length. Many holes are also played through more rugged dunes than the flatter East course.
Both courses are certainly worthy of a play during your visit to England's southwest coastline.
