Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa in Hawaii
The first of the resorts to come to Ka'anapali on the west side of Maui is the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, located near the historic beach town of Lahaina. The resort opened in 1963, set atop the famous Black Rock promontory, where Hawaiian royalty used to ceremonially dive off, and those traditions are upheld to this day every night at sunset at the resort. Sunset is a popular time for most guests to head out to the beach, or grab a drink at the poolside Mai Tai Bar and watch the sun disappear behind the island of Lanai.
Black Rock can be explored by guests of the resort, who can also snorkel around the coral reef beneath the water's surface. The reef attracts sea life, including giant sea turtles.
After major expansion in 1997, today the resort features 508 guest rooms in six towers, including presidential and luxury suites. The resort also recently added the boutique Black Rock Spa.
The resort is located near the Ka'anapali golf courses, home to Royal Ka'anapali, home of the Wendy's Champions Skins Game and the Ka'anapali Kai courses, and guests of the resort receive preferred golf package deals.
