The Duke's Course in St. Andrews, Scotland

The Duke's Course is a modern heathland golf course located just outside the town of St. Andrews, Scotland.

It was originally designed by Peter Thomson, but after Herb Kohler purchased the Old Course Hotel and Duke's property, he called on Pete Dye apprentice Tim Liddy to redesign the course, including creating four new holes and reshaping each of the 100-plus bunkers. The five sets of tees can stretch longer than 7,500 yards, and the course hosted the 2008 Scottish Amateur Stroke Play Championship.

The Duke's has also been continually upgraded and renovated to drain better, with the constant addition of sandy soil helping improve past drainage problems. Several greens have also been rebuilt in recent years.

The Duke's is the official course of the Old Course Hotel, which offers guests preferred access to the course, though it's open to the public daily. There is a full practice facility, and the clubhouse, which overlooks the town and coastline, serves a delicious lunch with some wonderful scenery.
