The PGA Centenary golf course at Gleneagles Resort: Host of the 2014 Ryder Cup

PERTH & KINROSS, Scotland -- Conditions on the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles Resort are rounding into form after a long seven-month renovation to prepare for the 2014 Ryder Cup.

New drainage systems should allow the Jack Nicklaus-designed course, which opened in 1993, to survive even the wettest weather.

The 18th hole, a 513-yard par 4/5, was altered significantly. New contours around the green fall off into collection areas well below the putting surface. Seven reshaped bunkers sit within 50 yards of the green, adding further trouble.

A pair of bunkers added to the ninth fairway just short of the green could force more players to go for the long par 5 in two. Risk-reward will be very much in play at the uphill 14th hole, which will be driveable for some at 320 yards from the tips.

Even those of us who don't hit it like Tiger Woods and Bubba Watson will still appreciate the course's other hilly holes and sweeping views of some dramatic countryside.
