Tour the brand new Atlantic Dunes at The Sea Pines Resort in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

The oldest golf course in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina has been rebuilt as the newest: Atlantic Dunes opened in October following a year under the knife and was built on top of the original course.

The course at The Sea Pines Resort plays and looks a lot different while still utilizing the original playing corridors (though some holes have changed in relation to par). More native vegetation and waste areas give it a unique feel compared to Sea Pines' Heron Point Course and Harbour Town Golf Links (both designed by Pete Dye). Atlantic Dunes' greens are also much larger -- double the size in many cases -- and landing zones are a bit more generous as well.

The signature hole is unquestionably the par-3 15th. It's one of the tougher par 3s among all three courses at Sea Pines as it plays long, and the green's exposed site beside the ocean means the wind can pick up often.

The completion of Atlantic Dunes gives The Sea Pines Resort a completely reborn and upgraded golf product. Heron Point and Atlantic Dunes play out of the new Plantation Clubhouse, which is also home to a large practice area and driving range that houses the resort's teaching academy. There are full locker rooms and great patio and indoor dining as well.
