While most sports fans are familiar with French Lick as the home of Larry Bird, avid golfers are discovering that the historic French Lick Resort is home to some of the best golf in America. With two legendary courses — the century-old Donald Ross Course and the modern Pete Dye Course— French Lick Resort an ideal getaway for architecture buffs. The two courses are two entirely different tests – the Ross with its elevated greens, tees and deeps bunkers, the Dye with its modern mounding, fescue and infinity greens. While the golf is certainly the main attraction, there's so much more to the destination, including a casino, great dining, a world class spa and historic accommodations that include the West Baden Springs Hotel, a domed hotel that was the largest free-standing building in the world when it was built in 1901.
Located in Southern Indiana, French Lick Resort is a half-day's journey from most Midwest cities. It is 66 miles west of the Louisville (Kentucky) International Airport (75-minute drive). It's also accessible by flying into Indianapolis International Airport, which is just under 100 miles to the north (2.5-hour drive). Limousine, taxi and rental cars are available from both airports. French Lick Airport has an exclusive private aviation arrangement with Magellan Jets and has free resort shuttle pickup.
