Enjoy golf in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest

The state of Washington has never been known as a hotbed for traveling golfers, but that has definitely changed the past decade. Hosting the 2015 U.S. Open put Chambers Bay near Tacoma on the map, and the addition of two new golf resorts, Salish Cliffs (2011) in Shelton and Gamble Sands (2014) in Brewster, has greatly raised the state’s profile.

The draw for golfers visiting Washington is a spectacular natural landscape where mountain backdrops, pristine rivers and forests of towering evergreens accompany the fairways. The beauty of the Pacific Northwest really shines in summer. Gamble Sands, for example, overlooks the Columbia River in a remote central part of the state. The 45-hole Suncadia Resort resides in Cle Elum on the drier side of the Cascade Mountains two hours from Seattle. It is an outdoor playground of hiking and biking trails and wine. Chambers Bay is a walking-only links cut from a former sand and gravel mine on the shores of the Puget Sound. The Kitsap Peninsula, located across the sound from Seattle, houses a handful of good public tracks, none finer than the Olympic course at Gold Mountain, one of the country’s top 36-hole municipal facilities.
