Nice layout, terrible pace of play

Interesting layout with some really unique holes. They recently aerated and the greens are not healing particularly well, though. Really bouncy and slow.

I could have tolerated that if not for an incredibly slow and loud group in front of us, who single handedly added an extra hour to the round. It seems like the marshals knew how slow they were playing and didn’t do anything to make them push their pace.

I wanted to enjoy the round but the pace of play, in addition to the aerated greens, really marred the whole experience.

Scenic and challenging

After playing this course a couple of years ago and really enjoying the experience, I had the opportunity to play it again on a beautiful Friday afternoon. The course was exactly as I remembered it, if not a bit better.

The course weaves in and around the Holston River, which makes for a collection of holes that are equal parts scenic, challenging and interesting. The land seems to have been created exclusively for a golf course to be built upon it. The par threes are particularly memorable and tough. I would recommend bringing a few extra golf balls though, as this course demands shotmaking and has water and waste areas checkering more than half of the holes. There are also a number of blind shots that can make locating your ball a little more difficult.

The course was in terrific shape. The greens were fast and rolled true on their undulated surface. The fairways were pristine.

Overall, it was a terrific experience that I would recommend to anyone in the area. The beautiful setting, challenging but fair layout and decent pace of play make for an enjoyable and relaxing day on the course.

Highly recommend.
