Bensalem Township Country Club
Played On 09/19/2019Well Manicured Course
Was in Philadelphia for a week and had two chances to golf. Bensalem was the best of the two with night and day differences in quality and amenities. The course was well taken care of and was challenging...especially the back 9. I have my new best par ever on the 400 yard 4 par 15th hole when my tee shot hit a tree in the hollow about 100 yards off the tee and bounced back to within 5 yards of the tee box. Yes, the last 5 holes of the back 9 play very tight.
Cobb's Creek Golf Club - Olde Course
Played On 09/18/2019Shows its age
Cobb's Creek runs through this course and adds very nice views, but this is the highlight, unfortunately. This muni course used to host the PGA, but shows many years of neglect and/or lack of funding for upkeep. The greens on 9/18 were furry. With a 25 foot uphill put on the 2nd hole and a 2-1/2 foot back swing, I didn't make it to the hole. It was as if the putt was on wet Velcro. The course layout offers so much more than what was delivered.
The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
Played On 02/24/2019Greens So Glassy You Can See Your Reflection
For me, this was the most challenging course I've played. Many false fronts, hidden swales, and hole positions that penalized imperfect positioning. This course hosted the 2018 PGA Championship, so this is a pro testing course that beats up mid handicap golfers. I loved the challenge.
Lone Tree Golf Course
Played On 01/10/2016Sloppy when wet
Good value for the money, but this course showed many signs of winter dormancy as well as greens that had many dead (dark grey/black) spots. I'm not sure if it was the weather or not, but the greens rolled like hitting on Velcro. MANY short putts through the day. Many areas of fairway were completely soaked and/or pooled with rain in the week preceding this game.
Tracy Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/12/2015Fun and Fast
With limited public access, this course boasts and lived up to a reputation for fast pace of play. Two of us completed the course in just over 3.5 hours and that was with following a 4-some for the entire back 9. We waited no more than 2 minutes on each of these tees and only a couple times from the fairway. Several shots presented views that suggested lots of clear space between waters edge and the green. I paid for these twice.
Redwood Canyon Golf Course
Played On 06/27/2015VERY Tight course
Because of a GolfNow deal, I only paid $15 for this primetime weekend round. This is a very tight course with at least two holes completely protected by trees fronting the green and many other fairways extremely narrow with either trees or creekbed and wildland banks lining them, so you better hit it straight. That being said, I hit my best finishing 8 holes, playing just 3 over par (my index is 21), so I am left with a favorable impression of this course.
Management recently changed over from private ownership to municipal, so conditions showed a lack of proper maintenance in the recent past.
Brentwood Golf Club - Creekside/Hillside Course
Played On 06/14/2015No walking allowed on Creekside course
There is a very long distance between green and tee for several holes, so walking is not allowed at this course. Given the severe drought in CA, this course was in nice shape. Greens were in great condition, but are soft and somewhat slower than other courses in the area (not a bad thing for this golfer). Just over 4 hours to play 18, but this was with a twosome ahead that had one beginner playing multiple balls all day. Group behind us hit into us on 4 occasions and nearly hit us on 3 of them. No course marshall ever seen the whole day.
Bunkers were horrible!! No sand in them at all, just hardpan or mud. luckily, I only found myself in two of them.
When the rains return to CA, this course will have even more attractive scenery. Every water hazard had a water feature (waterfall) from one side of the green. Some of them were running, but most had been turned off due to the water shortage.
Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
Played On 05/25/2015Natural Terrain Layout Makes for a TOUGH Walk
Lots of up and lots of down. Strange natural terrain layout has you hitting across a valley and the entrance driveway at least 4 times. The 15th and 16th holes offer one of the most beautiful panoramic views in golf, highlighting the skylines of both Oakland and San Francisco. Though mostly covered with fog, we could see the Oakland Bay, Golden Gate, and San Mateo bridges along these two holes. The fairways were a bit rough in places, but the greens were in great shape. Great value for a holiday @ $35 with cart. I prefer to walk, but this course is NOT for the casual walker with many steep hills to negotiate, including the approach from a steeply declining 650 yard par 6 18th hole which is so steep, the cart path has several switchbacks.
Deer Ridge Golf Club
Played On 05/08/2015Fun Course
Great weather and a great course to get good exercise while walking. The greens were glassy.
Thank you for your honest feedback. We take your thoughts seriously and are working hard everyday to provide great course conditions for our guests. We appreciate your patience as sometimes weather (or lack thereof) make us pivot our course maintenance routine.
