Just finished a trip to Hilton Head. Old South was the first course played and my friend and I were very impressed. The customer service was top notch, all the staff were super friendly from the moment of arrival and they set the bar HIGH. From the gentlemen at the bag drop off, to the pro shop, to the starter, the marshall, the beverage cart ladies and the restaurant staff were simply amazing. The course itself was in pretty good conditions and the layout is nice and challenging with a fair amount of water, bunkers and trees. This course set the bar high for the rest of the trip. We then decided to play the course later in our trip and took advantage of the replay for which we paid $41, a price you can't beat for playing this course. On our second round of the second time we played, a couple of gentlemen came to us on the 10th tee and asked to join, low and behold one of them was the owner of the course who very graciously gave us two complimentary rounds which we then decided to play the course a 4th time. If you get out early the pace of play is quick, if you're a bit later in the morning it can slow up a bit and you can expect 4h15min more or less to get through the round. I would highly recommend this course 5*

While the course is nice and somewhat newer, the greens were terribly affected with poa annua which took away from the experience. The pro shop gave us a discount to play where we paid $50. Apart from that, the course has a nice design, pretty wide open with some challenging holes. Not many people on the course likely due to the problems with the green which is a shame. For people staying on HHI, the 45 minute drive may not be worth it until they get their greens sorted. If I go back, I would play the course again as I did enjoy the course from tee box to approaching the greens. Hopefully they can get the poa annua under control sooner rather than later, at this time I would not recommend to play

We played this course on our second day and was our second round. Had played Hilton Head Lakes earlier and what a difference it was. The greens were in very good conditions, the course was challenging and picturesque. Of the 6 courses played this would be ranked as my 2nd/3rd top course. Pace of play in mid afternoon was slow. I would recommend this course and would play it again in a heartbeat.

Overall, it is a nice course and played well. We played this as our second course on our first day. at HHI. Pace of play in the late afternoon was quite slow which made getting into any rhythm a bit more challenging. Course conditions are pretty good. Would play the course again but there are many courses to play and choose from.
