Worth the time

First and foremost, the course conditions are better than the rumors I have heard. We enjoyed the layout and will be back as we believe course conditions will continue to improve. Downside was no ambassador/ranger and the ladies foursome that jumped ahead of us on 10. They fell 3 holes behind, and no one was there to advise about pace of play. At the 3 hour mark on hole 16, we finally went around them!

We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback as we will use your review to better the experience going forward. We hope you give us another try in the near future!

Even better than I remember

Been 4 years since I last played here. I am a much improved player since then, so it seemed a bit easier than before. The course is in excellent shape. Weather was hot and a player collapsed on #18 tee box requiring an ambulance. Not sure how that ended up?!
Anyway, next time I am in the area, I plan on playing here again.

pretty nice course

older course maintained in good condition. smaller greens make for a challenge. A little on the "rock hard" side making it difficult to check up. Several shots rolled long. Very generous fairways make for great play for novices.

Nice course. Will play again

Not our first time here, but the most frustrating. Pretty backed up, but the pace was good on the front nine. The twosome ahead of us quit at 9, but a group of 3 cut in front of us on #10. They blasted out just ahead of us and then slowed to a snails pace. I contacted the pro shop and they said they had not sent anyone off of the tenth tee. I was informed they would have someone right out. No one ever came. Back nine pace was 3 hours! We were stacked up and they wouldn't let anyone pass. Very frustrating. I guess I should have expected that with NO ranger to control pace of play! Especially on a Sunday. Disappointing, but we will only play here on weekdays in the future.

Very crowded. Lots of blind shots

Good rate through Golfnow ($60.00 + fees). Course very challenging due to a lot of blind tee shots. Greens were ok, but not maintained well by golfers. Lots of divots and bumps. Could use to be rolled. Our round was 5+ hours due to starter sending people to tee box in short intervals. There were 3 groups on the tee at #10 with a group on the green and another in the fairway! This is a nice course that would get easier with more rounds. Sometimes we didnt know where the fairway went about a 100 yards out. Also, we expected range balls to be included for the price. No GPS nor diagram showing pin placement for the day. We wont be back.

Very nice short course!

Great par 3 course. Easy to walk. Undulating greens make it more difficult. Wonderful staff.

Very challenging course! Excellent greens!

Got a great deal on GolfNow. Awesome staff. Had lunch before our round. The 1/2 lb hamburger was great. Hand cut fries! Wife had the chicken sandwich on ciabatta bread with a side salad. She loved it. Great service.

The practice range was ok. Hit from mats on highly elavated platform. Helped with loosening up & impact, but not distance. Range balls were old & need of replacement.

Course conditions were very nice. The greens were spongy & stuck very well. Could spin the all pretty easily & they were some of the I have seen in awhile. The fairways were cut nicely, but extremely sloped & challenging. You must place the all well off the tee or suffer the consequences. The traps had nice soft sand in them but needed work cutting them in & shaping them. They lacked definition. But, fairly easy to exit out of. Many blind shots off the tee & a ton of side hill / up hill / down hill lies. Anything out of the fairway is trouble.

Synopsis:
If you are looking for a very nice course, priced right, with lots of challenge, then this is a must play. Novices will struggle here & probably quit after 9 holes. But, the price is worth 9 holes. I will play here again & manage the course differently. The yardage book was given to us, & helped tremendously.

I shot a 79 & the wife gave up after 9. My handicap is a 7.

Excellent Course... but a few complaints...

We are full time RVers who travel all over the country and play golf courses everywhere. I have worked at two of the top courses in the country, so I have a tendency be a little critical, but fair. With that said, here is my review of Paiute Wolf Course:

With a tee time of 12:18, we got to the course around 10:45 for an early lunch. The facility is wonderful. The outside staff was very attentive and informative about the facility and directions. A great hand-off to the proshop for check-in. I usually don't tip upon arrival, but felt it appropriate considering Brad was very good at greeting us.

The restaurant was very clean and spacious. Our meal, the Monster Chicken BLT and the Southwest Burger were very good. The fries were some of the best we have ever had. Four of us split the two meals and they performed that in the kitchen without billing extra for the split. Nice touch. Both sandwiches were awesome! We highly recommend eating there either before your round or after. The view from the restaurant is picturesque (two holes on the Snow course).

Check-in at the Proshop was friendly and easy. We were instructed as to where to find our golf cart, which is not where you leave your clubs. The proshop seemed well appointed and staffed very well.

The driving range is nice although it seemed a little rough and over-used where we were stationed for the day. The putting/chipping area was very nice and was cut to the same speed as the course.

As for the course:
The fairways, tee boxes and greens are all well kept . The undulations of the fairway along with the placement of bunkers and waste areas is typical of Pete Dye and therefore, very challenging. The novice player will have a tough time here, and the veteran will have to place shots wisely for a good score. I loved it and would go back to play over and over.

The negatives:
We were never told that there was a 30 minute frost delay even though several staff members had the opportunity & responsibility. We would have had more patience for the slow pace of play that we encountered had we been advised.

The starter was weak in his presentation and didn't inform us of the mornings delay, the slow pace of play, where the bathrooms were located, anything about the beverage cart, or about a ranger on duty. He did tell us that they are very strict on their pace of play and would move players along accordingly.

You should understand our frustration when we were constantly waiting on shots for about 3-4 minutes. We informed the ranger that the group in front of us were novices and that they were a complete hole behind pace after the second hole. His response was that the general manager only worries about the "bottom line" and therefore tee times are only 8 minutes apart (below the national average). I was disappointed to hear someone on the staff state anything negative, especially about management. Not professional & only added to our frustration. He never informed the players to pick up their pace & we never saw him again.

Our round took over 4.5 hours and we finished in the dark. Several groups behind us, that could have finished their round, quit early out of frustration.

Synopsis: I love the layout of this course and will come back again to play. However, it will be during the week and when it is warmer. This way, we might be able to finish our round.

Lastly, the entire staff should be re-educated on informing players of anything that may interfere with their starting time or pace of play. Also, to keep their opinions of fellow employees/management to themselves. A positive experience is hindered by anything negative heard from the staff.
